Hmmm, had a similar thing last night...

I decided to return to 6.6 because it is faster than 7.6 model side but then it crashed unexpectedly and i hadn't saved recently >:(

So for that reason only, I've switched back to 7.6 model side again with the bridge off. Still not as fast as 6.6 but at least more stable... so I spent another half hour or so to redo what I posted in the new WIP thread for the Savannah a little while ago...

As far as extending the MMC, I still haven't decided yet. I'm going to see how it plays out until next Wednesday April 22, and then I will post my decision. Glad to see that tatts could be back in it again ! In the meantime, everybody continue as if the original deadline stands. I want to thank everyone who is, and may participate, and I hope that more can still find time before I decide (as this will more than likely be the determining factor;)).
WOW...what a crazy month !

Hope you're healing James:)

:jumpy: Great.

I have a question...

Post processing with a Paint Program to enhance lighting or environment presentation is fine. Background images are fine.

What about, bitmap for textures, and external render engine perhaps?:p

I'm tempted, but of course, I understand its to impulse the workflow of True Space.

Oh ok so I have lots more time then. :) Can it be a callag of different artifacts all in one or should it be mainly just based on one particular object?

Sinse there is more time, I was thinking that maybe I could finish my bluenose and somehow create a scene using both projects?

Whatever you want to do ! It doesn't have to be about one particular object. You can combine separate WIP objects to create a New Scene. You can create a separate scene using the same object.
Open a New WIP Thread for each image that you wish to submit, and share with us your thoughts and work flow process !:)

Just to give those who are still undecided to join the contest an idea who is talked about;)

This is supposed to be a portrait showing him in his oldest age. Afterwards no more was drawn or painted of him. This engraving is a copy of the original painting which burnt away in 1870. Scanned it from a book of 1897 about his life story. Interesting to think that another 112 years later he is now focused in trueSpace.

The ZIP file contains the original scan in full resolution, for those who want to inspect how people worked with handicraft, no computer, no nice program:D

There is some outstanding artwork done in history's past ! I was under the impression that no original portraits of him were made (or survived) of him, and that any portrait that you see is hypothetical ? If this is the case, what a loss we have in history from a man with such a great legacy and contribution to all of us !

no original portraits of him were made (or survived)

The original painted portrait of the above engraving, which is a copy of that painting, was supposed to be the only existing picture of him. In 1870 the library in Strassburg burnt down including this oriiginal painting.

So it is indeed right that no original exists anymore, just the above copy, which is kept in Mainz ( and available in old books:) ). In the first part of the 19th century people began to remember Gutenberg and his work, therefor in this time period almost everything was created that you will see of him today like for example these two monuments. They were modeled after the above mentioned portrait and are located in Mainz (14th of August 1837) and Dresden (1883/1884)

19547

Ironie of history is that millions and millions of people earned millions and millions with the kind of printing that Gutenberg developed while he himself lost everything, especially through the fire desaster and plundering in 1462. So he was depending afterwards on the mercy of Erzbishop Adolph in Eltville who gave him some shelter until death. He aws burried in the Franziskanerchurch in Mainz. This church was torn down in 1742, rebuild 1746 and 1793 destroyd through canon fire (French war) . Then in 1809 till 1816 the ruins of the church were totally taken away. Just a few years afterwards then people began to remember Gutenberg and kind of a hype started to give him his well earned place in history.

The change he started is similar to the change we are having through the last years. To show I just took this photograph showing that kind of letters initiated by Gutenberg and in use till the end of last century.

19549

Meanwhile you ( still ) have laser beam, or ink drops - which again already change towards online manual, PDF files or different other electronic kinds of books and printings. This year at CEBIT in Hannover I could play around with electronic paper, kind of LCD that you can hold in your hand while the display turns the image like the pages of a book.

This MMC in so far I think is quite outstanding, from the idea to the possibilites one can enter as a final image. Again, after having more of details I hope more will join the contest especially as it is expanded till May !!!

Attached ZIP file contains full scan of the two monuments. Notice that same as with the above engraving it is like lots edges form the picture like in trueSpace for one of the sculptures, while the second one seems to be build from lots and lots of vertices.

This is very interesting Emma ! I knew the Gutenberg basics, but had no idea about his unfortunate details after inventing the printing press (and even after his passing).

Just a reminder.... This month's MMC (APRIL) has been extended into MAY !!!:)
These details have been adjusted in the First post of this Thread.
I do hope that more can find the time to reproduce some "Great Moments In History" for this MMC !
Sincerely,
Ed

Three days left till final submissions !
I guess we've seen about all who are going to share what they have inside of them ? It's a shame more didn't play, especially considering the extension. A lot of missed opportunities to share some "Great Moments in History" !
The ones who did play came up with some mighty fine art, and it's going to be a challenge in itself to choose a winner....As they are all WINNERS in my book !!!:)

If there's not many I'll enter the bomb (colour pic) as well :)

Did not get around to the modeling I wanted to do this weekend :(

Will have to try and finish off the steam boat design and place it and the first automobile in its own scenes for entry during the following two evenings...

had a lot more planned than this but time ran out with RL bogging me down [ even with 2 months time!!!! :( ]

Well...considering the recent news with the demise of trueSpace, I'd like to add that I'm going to miss the MMC, SMC, and TMC most of all (besides chatting with everyone here in this great Forum). These challenges were my inspiration to learn the tS program and how to model. I guess the tradition will have to carry on elsewhere. I hope to see many of you participating in other Forums, and hopefully you will continue using your same user names !:)

This truely was a "Great Moment In History" !

Have the poll and everything for this MMC. The forum won't necessarily disappear on the 22nd. Let the participants see who wins if possible. If not the you can put the final entries up somewhere else the TS people visit and have a vote.
