Looking back on my hit-and-miss involvement on the forum, it occurs that I have rarely posted any appreciable content. I thought I’d offer this WIP.
This pic is basically a “car paint” test – the model is FAR from finished. I have ~ 60 hours on the model so far. It's mostly edge extruded. (CK Game Factory TSX) It had a bit of a painful trip from TS 6 to TS 7, but all is well now.
Since I have very limited time, I can’t promise when it will get done. (I had a hot rodded Mini that took almost a year.)
I would appreciate any suggestions that may come to mind.
I either need to find more time or pick simpler subjects.....:) |

I'll take a guess and say it is a 55 Chevy Belair. I sure hope you finish it because it is looking sweet! |

Marvelous work in model and texture! The paint looks freshly laid down by a pro.
Bravo!
I don't envy you having to model the front and rear glass tho. |

fantastic paint job, my first impression was also a Trabant, probably because there are no chrome parts yet (which they lacked). Trabants never had such a beautiful gloss though. Looking forward to see more!

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! I'm glad you are all pleased with the work.
Steinie had it from the beginning - It's a 1955 Chevy Belair. With so little trimwork on it I can see a definite resemblence to the Trabant.
Splinters, I'm happy to share the settings. Hopefully you'll find them useful.
I have the luxury of being able to manipulate the scene, materials and lighting on this piece - so if anyone has some suggestions, I'd love to hear 'em.
For now, there are some vertices on the front wheel opening that need attention...... I'd better be getting the rest of the chrome built.....then there's the final glass..... some sort of interior.....tires.....and 22 slots in the cowl. (May have to fake that one.):D |

Oh! One minor little item. It was rendered in VRay.
Wonder how the material would turn out in Dribble? Hint. Hint.;) |

Thanks, Splinters! I'm very curious how it would render out. I've been seriously considering Dribble - just haven't made up my mind yet.
I'm working on the road for the next few days. When I get back home I'll just post the file. This will let anyone else play around with the mesh and materials that wants to.
Better get back to work. These telephone poles won't climb themselves...... |

Hi, everyone! Finally arrived back home today around 1400 CST (GMT -6). Only to find out I’m leaving again Sunday morning. (What some of us will do to make a living….)
Splinters, here is the entire scene. When you feel like experimenting, I’d love to see what Dribble/3Dlight can do.
The mesh in this file comes from three layers in my construction file. I SDS’d the heck out of it, applied the materials and started running paint trials. If anyone wants to take this file and make their own project, please feel free to do so. I’d like to see what others can come up with. That flame job sounds intriguing.
Since I won’t be back for a while, happy Thanksgiving to those of us who celebrate the holiday – and an equally happy Thursday to those of us who don’t! Ya’ don’t need a holiday to be happy, so just do it!
And, Splinters, thanks for your time and trouble!:) |

I had a quick mess Dave but Dribble does strange things with SDS surfaces so I will have to look into that but it did look good and rendered pretty quick...:D |
