Better, yes, but why take out the bump and reflectance? Leave them in but make the texture darker and it'll flow even better. |

the brick texture is a lot better now. Start thinking about your light sources now, where are those spot lights coming from? i always liked to use an IBL for a general 'backround' light then spots or an infinite light as a main light, i works quite well. One light is coming form the portal and the other one is the flashlight in the viewer's hand off camera.

When I tried that, it looked like the rust was just crusted over the whole thing. still could not see the recesses... that is why I left the color there and removed the bump... then the reflectance was making it look like there were little ants in there with tiny little flashlights, so I defaulted that as well. :D |

OK - I need opinions. First, I worried about the water under the pipe until I realized that It looked like it was on a flat surface instead of a tiled one, so I fixed that.
Now. First picture has a Very Dusty floor.
Second picture has Slightly Dusty floor.
Third picture has a dirty floor.
Which do you people think looks best?

EDIT: I knew I forgot one... partially dirty

I like the partially dirty one the best. :)
Can you make the water a little less blue? |

Well.. the light is blue coming from the portal, so the water is going to look a bit blue. Maybe this will look better though. And I added a blank for the portal.

No self respecting wizard would use cement for a floor ;)
You got that right Kena - ogre-skin rugs are the current floor coverings in vogue amongst the pointy hatted brigade at the moment!!!
Re your portal pic - it's coming along nicely. You've made some great improvements. Some suggestions; nothing suggests great age better than cracks and wrinkles - I'd suggest adding some cracks to the floor tiles and possibly having one or two wall bricks actually missing or visibly broken.
Secondly, I'm not sure that the water on the floor is working that well - you could try adding a masked layer in your floor texture reflectance channel to sudjest dampness rather than an actual water object.

i prefer picture one, two is too bright, it lacks the mystery and menace of the first one.
However i can see a repeated texture down the left wall next to the pipe, a dark line running down with the same gouges out the bricks.
It's a little distracting and take away from the image, have you thought about using a simbiont texture on the walls? Or you could use a differnt wall texture, i've got a few you could use. |

Uh... I like both?
I like that image one is a bit darker but I also like that image 2 sort of gives the feeling of fog or mist in the lit area. |

See now, that worries me... I wasn't going for menace... It's supposed to be a happy discovery..... Maybe I need to bring back the clean floor.
as for the "line" next to the pipe... It's just the mortar between every other brick, but I can move the pipe over a bit to take care of that.
Also, these ARE Simbiot textures :D
I'm not at home right now, so I will work on it Monday and Tuesday.
Also thanks to 3dfrog and Heidi... good opinions. :D |

No i think you should keep the dirty floor. Are you putting characters in it?
The line i was talking about is this one, in the red box. It looks like a repeated texture, and after you notice that, you see the 'gouges' in the bricks (in the red circles), and then you see that the texture on all the brick are repeated. I'd seriously think about using an image map or finding a way of randomizing the darktree texture a bit:

Well... sometimes a happy discovery can be found unexpectedly.. where the place looks a bit ... dubious.. maybe even a little scary, and in the midst of that... something really good :)
Just thinking about this because of the leaky pipes rust and grime ^_^ |

With a subject like this I think its gonna be left open to interpretation of the viewer if its a happy discovery or something ominous unless you really spell it out like a figure with an expression or some sort of content showing in the portal. Some fear the unknown and some embrace it. Even if you clean the floor some people just will not want to enter the portal. If it were me i'd want to peek my head in to see but I'd want to go home when its over and done with. But curiousity killed the cat.
I like jayr's suggested texture. I think something along that line would really enhance the image. |

Meow.
I adjusted the bricks a bit and found a way to lighten the top left without destroying the mood I wanted to create.

Ain't it always this way for me... I can get the first 80%, but that last 20 I have to struggle with. |

Looking pretty nifty Kena. With that flooring it looks like it could be a portal at the back of a 50's diner. |

Thats true with everyone i think, i know it is with me! You fly through the brgining get it almost done then get obsessive at the end. Keep going, it's this part that seperates the men from the boys.
That brick texture is much better, far less repetative. |
