One way is to just draw a circle or something and use the panels and experiment, maybe this quick animation will help. After awhile it becomes real easy and very powerful tool to use. In this example I am making a lotion bottle useing the tri-panel. Except for the cap everything is made using the tripanel, quick and fast with great looking results.

Bi and tri rails where used for most of the parts in this 100% nurb specs, real easy to crumple up doing it this way :). I like nurbs because it is really easy to make bends and change them afterwards.
