I've been away for ages! Lotsa new people around these parts, and I'd like to extend a warm welcome to the lot o'you!

This has been a sort of on and off project for some time for me. It's an aircraft interior module based model. The idea was that you could just copy paste as many rows and seats as you want. Doesn't seem too popular over at Turbosquid (http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/376553) just now, but we'll see how it goes!

The whole thing is pretty high poly, so it'll take me a while to get a good image out of this. The good thing is I already have an idea in my head for an image, so we'll see if I can execute it!

Thanks everybody! Yep, HDRI. I actually made the .hdr myself this time with HDRshop! Great tool. I took this image:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/Methusela/101_4591.jpg

I got that picture when I worked for Delta over the summer (awful, awful job. Baggage Service call centre. They were using software older than me to find misplaced baggage, and our job was basically to tell people to shut up and be patient. Lots of screaming from the other end). The plus side was that I got to fly for free within the US, so this was in a Delta 737-800 from Baltimore to Atlanta on my way home. I got lots of other neat pictures too. :D

Anyways, I put that picture in Photoshop and applied that fisheye kind of filter to it to make it resemble an HDR probe:

Then converted it to an HDR image with HDRshop! Wonderful tool!

Also, that image was actually the basis for much of the modeling. Another was an image I took from inside a crappy MD-88 from Atlanta to Dulles. Dulles has a great Smithsonian museum so that's a neat airport. Even better is they sell Skymarks models (http://www.skymarksmodels.com/index2.html) there!

Welcome back Chris - although it somehow seems appropriate for someone called Methusela to disappear for long periods!

Interesting model subject there and an interesting use of HDRI. Did you use a series of pix of the same scene at different exposures to make a true HDRI image are just stretch the brightness values of the one pic?

Re Call centre work - what is it with call centres? So many of them seem to run on antiquated software systems not to mention antiquated staff management policies! I've worked in a few myself and they just were not nice places to be.....

Coming back to the topic I'm looking forward to seeing a final scene with your great models

Thanks jayr and W!zard! Yeah it does seem ironic doesn't it?

Interestingly enough, I don't have a decent camera yet (saving up for a digital rebel); so that picture was taken with my sister's cheap point-and-click camera. Only needed the one picture, but I did boost the brightness a wee bit. Seems to have given a great effect despite that though!

As for call centres, I know what you mean, especially about the managment. At Delta we were managed down to the second. Screw up more than twice and you're fired. I have punctuality troubles on the best of days, so it took a monumental effort to keep my job there. When I first started working there, I had intended to keep the job through school as either part-time or with more accomodating hours, but they were about as unflexible as a frozen diamond rod. So fortunately school put an end to my occupation there. I may go back next summer though, but only long enough to go back to England for a little while.

Bit the bullet and spent $650 on bits for a new computer (first one I've ever built myself!) so that render shouldn't be nearly as hard as first feared!

Thanks for the info on your HDRI process - I'm interested that you got good results from it as I'm sure the purists would say it's not a 'real' HDRI pic without an extending dynamic range (but then 9 out of 10 experts believe the other guy should just chill out!;))

Re call centres; The last call centre I worked in (for a Telco/IP provider) reported that 2 thirds of the staff were either on anti-depressant meds or seeing a counselor or both. As far as I can see there is no need nor reason for this management style - it's well documented that happy staff are more productive than unhappy staff - but there is one thing I can say with reasonable certainty and that is that you won't find me working in a call centre again!
