Make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card installed. It can be hard to find a decent graphics card for $100, but as I live in the UK i cant help heh

Any of these 7600 GS cards should work fine:

Didn't mean to wait so long to reply. Had to wait until I got home from work to check this. The graphics card is a Nvida GForce4 MX4000. I think it has 128megs of ram.

Thanks

Ack!

Yeah, you'd see a HUGE improvement if you stepped up to a 7600 level card. Don't get a 7300 though, they are total crap.

Wait... does your motherboard support PCI-E?

And do you have a power supply that will support these latest cards?

At a certain point, you just can't upgrade to the latest in GPUs. The changes to motherboards and power supply requirements make it much less of a headache to simply buy a new PC. I'm not saying *you* have to right now, just keep in mind that you could spend an awful lot of time and frustration on trying to update an older system.

Thanks, I had to do a little research to upgrade my knowledge on computers. My system is only 26 months old so I thought it was fairly currrent. But now I know that PCE slots are the standards now. I don't have PCE slots but PCI (5), but it does have a 8xAGP slot and that is the type I will need. I don't think power is an issue as I had to replace a burn out power supply a few months ago an I remember that I got 450w. I can get a GForce 7600 gs but the price is a little more that I want to pay.

Not totally sure that I know what specs I needed to be sure and get thought as a minimum.

Thanks

Considering you're system and budget limitations these are the only two cards I'd recommend:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125039

And it seems silly not to pay the $15 difference for the more current card.

I'm using a 7900GS which runs pretty much anything I can throw at it at 1680x1050, no problems. With the 8800's out for a while now, I wouldn't get anything less than a 7 series card. 5 and 6 series cards are getting pretty dated. 6600's can still do ok, and are adequate for TS, but if you're going to use the real-time DX shaders in TS you have to get a 7 series card or better.

BTW, graphics card is EVERYTHING as far as modern 3D application performance goes. You'll be graphics card limited long before your CPU is maxed out. My dad has an old 2.0 GHz single core Athlon that he uses for games and after installing a 7900GS in his machine he can play anything out on the market with almost all the settings maxed out. RAM helps a lot too and is also cheap right now: 2 GB of the good stuff for ~$100. ;)

Good luck on this, but rsaintjohn might be right about just buying a whole new system. If you plan on doing VRay or Lightworks renders you also need 2 GB ram and as fast a CPU as you can get.

You can save a lot of money and get more power buy building yourself and overclocking. I was able buy a $160 (at the time) 1.8 Ghz C2D chip and I have it currently clocked up to 3.3GHz with the right motherboard and cooling setup. So there are ways to get a lot of power on a budget, you just need to know what you're gonna need it for.

None of the stores in my area sell the graphics card you recommended and I didn't want to buy over the internet, so I ended up buying a NvIda GeForce6200-XFX card, and it was $89 dollars. I had to get the latest drivers from the Nvida web site and eveything is now working fine. I am very pleased with this card, even though it is a step down from the one you recommended, but it has 256 megs of DDR memory, supports shader 3.0, and DirectX 9.0. It also supports overclocking, but I don't intend to fool with that. The first thing I noticed in TS, in workspace is that the default lighting is much brighter than it was with the previous graphics card and I'm sure that it now looks the way TS workspace was intened to look. Also very pleased with TS7-5. I don't know why anybody would use any other 3d modeling software other that TS? I have silo, blender, demos of lightwave, maya, milkshake, rhino, and misc others, but I hands down perfer TS.
