hi,
as a new user to truespace and using TS7.5 with Vray, im not sure how to develop shaders, textures etc for vray, dx9, and lightworks...
any tutorials to help me along...
can it all be done in workspace or does it have to be done in model side...
cant wait for them to fully complete the workspace side of things so we don thave to keep going back and forth... (as a complete new user i am having to learn TS6 and TS7...)
but would appreciate any help with creating shaders... like great plastics, glass, some SSS materials,
ive played a bit but want to know if there is more...
thanks for any help |

Had this (http://forum.caligari.com/discus/messages/board-topics.html) link worked there are many posts regarding lightworks shaders.
Its the old tS community forum.
For someone new to the tS concept this (http://www.caligari.com/Help/Resources/tSDemo_resources/default.asp) resource pages is much recommended. |

Hi Leif,
Yeah, it is sometimes a handy resource, thanks for pointing that out. ;)
Here's the corrected link below but for those who are new here it should be stressed that the link below goes to a forum where you should not reply to any messages or post any new messages... it is the OLD forum and a such is no longer in use except as a resource reference (as Leif suggested above).
http://forums.caligari.com/discus/messages/board-topics.html
You'll find some shader discussions and resources there and more in the "archives" at the bottom of each discussion topic page.
Be aware that many of these shaders will probably NOT work with the newest versions of trueSpace, but the methods utilized in their creation may be invaluable in some ways to people struggling with their own newer shader development efforts.

In addition to the reference links above, the Lightworks shaders are covered in Chapter 6 (beginning on page 54) of the manual. See image below for location of the Lightworks shaders. :) |

As a shader developer with such plugins as Shader Magic and Shader Lab, I was hoping that the link editor and scripting interface would be better documented when it comes to lightworks shader creation. tS7 had the super lightworks shader, but I could never get anything out of it. Now, in tS7.5, there is NO super lightworks shader, and now I have no clue where to start. I can see by opening the master library panel that there are modules that I can drag into the LE that are analogous to what I was used to seeing in Shader Magic/Lab, but how to connect them to form anything is beyond me at the moment.
As for Shader Magic/Lab shaders, I've got a bunch of my old files that you can use to rip apart and learn with. They seem to all work in tS7+. I'll try to get them online sometime in the near future, for those that are interested. |

You can burrow into the LE and find the LW shader components but you don't seem to be able to do anything with them or if you can make changes they aren't reflected in the object. I know how to work with them in 6.6/modelside its the new workspace which is problematic with its insistance on presenting only VRay shader components.
Its very frustrating - your using LW materials they are being displayed live in a DX9 enviroment and the software only offers VRay shaders when you try to investigate the materials! I had more success with LW shaders via the LE in 7.1. |

There is a little more information in the Developer's Guide with regards to Materials and such. Would be great seeing more people creating cool shaders.

Where do you get this developers guide? The only link I have seen would not allow me in to download it.
Cheers

Hi Mykyl1966,
The 7.5 Developers Guide isn't out yet (that I know of anyway) but I believe the "Developers Guide" you see referenced here and everywhere else is at the following link:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=2334&postcount=4
It is for TS7 and as such much of the info still applies to TS7.5 ;)
Hope that helps,
