Thought some might enjoy viewing this render that I had such a good time with.

I'm sure that I would want to render this graphic more realistic since I have the real picture in me, so I'll go at it when I can.

Hi Richard - I'm not sure if you want constructive feedback or not (which is sort of the purpose of this particular forum).

I'm not that sure that I did enjoy viewing this render - after all the subject is rather sombre - and the image, as you have noted, is not overly realistic so it lacks any real "wow" factor IMO.

If you do want comments and feedback on how to improve this image you'll find you'll get much more help here if you ask specific questions - 'how can I make my textures look better?', 'how can I improve the lighting?' and so on.

Hope this helps and welcome to the forum

I enjoyed looking at the render myself. I think its a very nice image. I think some shadows and more dramatic lighting would really give it punch. For some reason the overall look is kind of desaturated, I would make some areas stand out a little more than other areas in this respect. Just my 2 cents. Nice seeing your work.

Yes, I liked it too.. a very interesting image to me... However, I think I understood you to say it's not quite how you see it in your inner vision.

If you are attempting a style similar to that of Arthur Hughes (http://users.ox.ac.uk/%7Espet1820/Aurora.html), who illustrated some of George MacDonald (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_MacDonald)'s books, I realize you might want an almost misty look, although I think he perhaps was more definite about the direction of light..

I'm curious which of MacDonald's works you've quoted.. I read Phantastes many years ago (which I liked very much at the time) but my memory is a bit vague ;)

Thanks for sharing this with us.

^_^

Modern reflections of the past where the dead were provided offerings of feast. Perhaps a visitor reminiscing in the galactic room of universal vision offering a value in which the departed can no longer partake.

Light and shadow can be in a message or by demonstration. Sometimes the viewer needs assistance with the former. :)

Ah James, with words as subtle as the colors of Arthur Hughes... ;)
I do not find the subject sad or depressing.. my father passed away on Christmas Eve, which is also my mother's birthday... we seem to share many dates in my family.. his passing was of the gentlest.. a kind and good man, generous of spirit. ^_^

Friends, I realized that I should have placed this image in the image galary thread right after I viewed it but never thought of posting that awareness.

WOW, all those viewers looking at that image and what must have gone through their minds. I simply wanted to reinforce one of my favorite authors poems and wondered how many people would see it. Don't we all as artists want to turn ourselves inside out and say look what's in me.

Butterpaw, the poem is from his Poem collection and titled, you guesed it " Thy Heart.

I apologize if the image seemed morbid to anyone, perhaps I'm a little desensitized by my tour in Vietnam and the daily world news.

Wizard, my Scotish wife and I lived in Darvel, Scotland for three years and I got to visit England while living there. It's not New Zealand but it does have it's beauty... and of course, there's Scotland. (very dear in my heart.}

Thank you all for your input, very much more than I expected. It's always good to know that people are willing to help.

At that note, Cheers and a Merry Christmas to you all. :jumpy:

Ah so sorry if we got it wrong.. well.. you know, WIP .. means pitch in and try to help because the person thinks it's not finalized yet.

And frankly, another person put their piece in the gallery and somebody questioned whether it should be there (actually, it was correctly placed) - sometimes confusion reigns ... :p

My immediate reaction to it was very positive and all the symbolism was right there for me.. seeing the MacDonald quote was also a real pleasure for me, as you brought back some very good memories from a past that wasn't all sweet (I got back a nice little piece of my life .. that I had mislaid) :)
thank you!

Friends, thanks again to be willing to share in my life. I think that at this point, due to the pulls of my family and the attention that I'm a debtor to, I must be satisfied to visit Caligari like I have for so many years now and be amazed at the talent that is out there. ( Truly awesome. ) If I found Truespace when I was in the seventh grade I probably wouldn't have come up for air.

Truespace modeling has been a source of great satisfaction to me and I, like so many of you, am grateful to have been introduced to it. Canvas, oil, watercolor, pencil and other media rolled up in one without having to put any of it away after using it or cleaning the brushes.

I will cheer Romans' succes with it. He, among others, put a lot of hard work in it.

Butterpaw, yes it does appear that confusion reigns at times but with me it has been a tool to settle me into not fearing the past, present or future.

Happy rendering! :jumpy:
