Hello, I have a question that many Truespace 7.5 owners with VISTA might have. On my laptop Vista comes with DX10 and Truespace 7.5 does not support DX10 yet. My question is since 7.5 supports open gl what are some of the advantages or disadvantages of using open gl instead of directx? I realize directx specific shaders can not be used? Any info on using open gl would be appreciated.

OpenGL is only used on the Model side in tS7. The Model side can also use DirectX, but the preference as to which you would use would be determined by the capability of your video card. If your video card was tuned for OpenGL over DirectX than you'd want to use Open GL.

The Workspace side uses DirectX only - 9.0c or above is required.

Note that Vista does use DX10, but it also uses DX9 too - this means tS7.5 runs just fine under DirectX9.0c. I know for sure, since I am using it on Vista with an 8800 card :)

So there will be no need to resort to OpenGL - if you like, Vista uses DX10 at the high end, but continues to run with applications requiring earlier versions of DirectX (otherwise there would be a lot of unhappy gamers out there), so tS7.5 continues to run with full support for all its features, under Vista with a DX10 graphics card.

HTH!
