Hello, Maybe someone can help. I know how to add the different mikes moves bvh animations to dexter (just replace the animclip). My question now is .. Iam downloading FREE BVH motion capture files from bvhfiles.com. Iam having trouble figuring out how to insert in to tank girl or dexter etc. Since the mike moves and other bvh files that come with 7.6 have an ANIM CLIP in the LE/Skeleton it is easy to just replace the anim clip in dexter with the anim clip in one of the mikes moves bvh files. But bvh files that you get elsewhere do not have the anim clip. So is there an easy way to get standard bvh files to work? MrBones sure would know since he is the motion capture expert for Truespace. Here is a download link to a free bvh file from bvhfiles.com. There are soooo many free bvh motion capture files on the web. Will be real excited when I can figure out how to start using them. This if from bvhfiles.com

For the moves to work like Dexter and Mike Moves, They must be retargeted to a standard skeleton. This means that you may have to Rigg the character with a Standard skeleton structure to . Or rename the bones to match.

Free BVH on the net are all different naming conventions. Thats why Free Bvh is not a practical or useful system. However

If the names in your free BVH match this image, then they will just apply to Dexter or Mike Moves or all TrueBones.

After Importing the Bvh and saving as an RS.anim clip, you can apply motions directly to the skeleton track of your actor. This is a much better system.

Let me know if you need help finding any specific motion for you.

I have also attached a small rigging tutorial.

Cheers

As always MrBones thanks so much for your great help. I have always admired all your hundreds of capture bvh clips for Truespace on your truebones.com website. So if I purchased some of those clips they could be setup as you mention below? Iam considering the over 1000 magic bones set. Just want to make sure they will work with Truespace 7.5. I think with that many clips I would be set for just about anything I would want to do ... for awhile.

Having worked with mocap data straight from the vicom collecting system, collected motions from the internet and used Mr.Bones motions, I can easily say Mr. Bones offers the easiest most straight forward solution. :). I am often surprised at how many people know of and use his motions from people I meet at industry gatherings to random conversations on highend tech forums, Mr. Bones is one well known guy and his motions are universally well recieved :)

Wow, that is very cool Mr Bones. I notice ever since 7.6 came out you have been on fire. For me personally Iam so glad now that Truespace is free. Even though I was an owner of Truespace I missed having a super busy forum and lots of people interested in Truespace. Now all that is changing. People and companies all over seem to be taking notice. Pixar, well they are why I love animation. :jumpy:

Great to see you doing so well MrBones.

All publicity for TS related aspects can only widen the user base, and hopefully draw in larger numbers of character anim enthusiasts. With a bit of luck, in turn, this will promote an even bigger desire to further improve the joint driven side of TS. win- win situation.

Who knows maybe you will be working for Pixar somewhere down the line :D

Nice 1

Thanks J,

Cool Animation!

Pixar got me started too.

I actually applied for a job to them with a demo vcr video tape about 15 years ago. They did send me a kind rejection letter. But that never stopped me from aspiring,

My animation desire still burns strongly, inspired by pixar!
