Hi. I was just looking over the truespace page. I see featured on one page a crazy bob rigged with finger bones and more ik controls. This is what I am aiming for, that model would be a huge help to see. Is there anyway to get the model? The crazy bob that comes with the program is not fully rigged.

Man I have been posting to these forums a lot!

I believe that rigged Crazybob was offered up in one of the threads for download, but for the life of me, I can't remember which forum it was in, or who posted it!

Sorry that info isn't more helpful :(

I can't tell which of those rigs are which right now (I'm alittle busy), the one you want is from Tomas (one of the developers for the character animation tools). He did a basic walkthru to show what he did to make the rig but he may not have posted it...

Thanks for searching that jhowell, sometimes I forget to search ;)

Unfortunately none of those files contain the fully rigged crazy bob models. I am really hoping to get the one with finger bones. I built a skeleton with finger bones, but the fingers behave weirdly on inbetween frames. So I am hoping to see from someone more experienced how to do it properly. My fingers are set up like mr bones. And I'd like to do some nice animation with crazy bob, I want to do a lot of exercises with him and I'd really like fingers and full control.

Maybe tomas will be kind enough to post his rigged crazy bob and that walkthrough. That would be most excellent :)

I think you are looking for this thread...?

I have not reviewed the attached files for how developed the rig actually was compared to the video presented.

The rig in that video looks great but that rig is not available on the thread. The rigged crazy bob object on there is just the one that comes with the program :(

Oliver? Tomas? Please Please Please :)

Mr. Bones might be able to help in his thread about his new rigged characters (under business; I was just there and already forgot the name , but it has one of those exclaimation marks next to it). He doesn't have crazy bob, but he has a bunch of others.

Hi

I put some finger bones in crazy bob. Model Attached.

Is there anyone who can look at it and tell me how to make a control to tilt the shoulders and hips. I can't figure it out.

Thanks.

By tilt, I assume you mean, one hip either stays still or shifts, up, while the other shifts down, and vice versa?

If so, can you setup an IK chain between the hip joints, and another between the shoulders? When one hip shifts up, the other shifts down.

Not sure if that helps or not; I cannot look at it right now but that's what popped in my head.

looks like what you need is an IK handle that will rotate the T-type branch, both in the hips and the center of the back. I'll try this later; going back out!

When the handle is grabbed, and the RMB is used for rotation, the T-branch rotates, so one shoulder rotates up, and the other down; and vice versa.

We'll get it!

Yeah Frootee Thanks for looking into this.

The way it is now the shoulders rotate back and forth and when they do they go up and down too. These need to be seperate. So they will tilt up and down with one action and back and forth with another. Same with the hips. Oliver Rohe and Tomasb had this in their rig but they seem to not be around right now. But it is possible, I just can't get it to work.

Let me know if you can figure out anything.

Thanky :)

did they use MotionStudio or the 7.5 bones?

And do you have a copy of the rig, or an animation? I have to get a better understanding of rigging, IK chains, etc. So I'll be spending some time with this.

:)

Hm. If the current rig allows both motions at the same time, can't we just use the coordinate locks available with the lock system, turning them on/ off as needed? i.e. to get the shoulders to move up and down but not forward/backward, check the X and Y the checkboxes, and leave Z unchecked?

I'll try it;

Hi Frootee

Take a look at the attached movie to see the rig they made. Something like this is my goal. It is 7.5 bones.

I think I got the tilts going ok, see bobchange5 attached. To get the tilts to tilt smoothly drag side to side on the arrows, not up and down like they are pointing. For some reason no matter which way I turned the arrow only the opposite direction worked smoothly. No big deal. The shoulders might be able to tilt a little more exactly, they are a little sloppy I think, dont know why. The reason I couldn't get these tilts before is because I wasn't leaving enough loosness in the surrounding bones so the surrounding bones were restricting movement, if that makes sense.

Thanks

hi 3dfrog. Thanks for sending that video. That makes things much more clear.

I wonder why the Bob ultimate rig is not freely available; I do know that Oliver is a pro, so maybe it's sort of a trade secret.

I have to go out for today but I will look at this in more detail. Now that we have the video we can study it in more detail.

You have a video editor right? Virtual dub ought to do it, if nothing else:

what we can do is take the video into a video editor, and study individual frames, even save some good ones for zooming into, so we can get a closer look at the structure. It looks like there are 2 handles for the chest: one is for rotating the upper torso, the other is for the shoulders only.

I will take a closer look at this tonight.

quick update 3dfrog. Finally got a little time to spend on this this morning.

One issue you reported was, when you drag the arrow in one direction, the mesh moves in the opposite direction. This is because you have the IK handle IN FRONT of the mesh. move the arrow behind the mesh, and you will be able to move the mesh in the same direction.

I'll report more shortly...
