I am workspace and have a creature creature model. I am trying to paint just the arms or a section. If I select faces and control click a few faces how do I apply a colour or a texture just to these areas.

Cheers

Hi Steve,

If you use the Model side and its Material Editor, you can simply click the Paint Brush there once you have the faces selected, and they will all be painted with the new texture / material. Most likely you have to use the Model selection tools to get your faces selected too, rather than workspace tools.

I don't think we have this duplicated yet on the workspace side Material Editor (but we might have, I can't remember for sure - you can try and see, select faces then use the paintbrush tool!).

If not, the alternative is to use the paintbrush tool to paint those faces without selecting them first. You can just click and drag with the paintbrush rather than click one face at a time.

Note that once you have a material in place you can change it by using Paint Over Existing Material (on either Model or workspace) and all occurences of that material will be repainted. Let's say you made both arms bright green, a click with this tool on any face on either arm will make both arms be repainted (say bright blue). That makes it easy to change all faces without the need to select them or repaint them one by one (but of course you need the appropriate areas of the model painted the same as a first step).

Something out of these tools should let you achieve what you need!

This is a real beginers question here. I create the model and right click to see all the vertex's. I cannot see a paint tool anywhere. If I drag a material onto the model the whole model is changed. I can select different areas using the point edit faces & control click.

What am I missing here?

The paint tool is part of the material editor.

The Paint tool on the workSpace side of things does NOT currently work with the selection tools in TS7.51.

Jack showed you where it is on the Modeler side.

Here is thread about workSpace side.

Right clicking opens Point Edit mode, rather than the mode for painting materials.

In the modeler you can combine this - open PE mode, select your faces, then use the Material Editor Paint Face tool as shown in Jack's post below to paint all selected faces at once. Handy function :)

DOH!

Selecting a set of faces first and paint them all at once that's exactly what I needed last night Tom, I painted hundreds of individual faces one at a time in Workspace. I could drag-select faces I'm sure once but I could only seem to select one face at a time and left-click to paint it in Workspace

I could drag-paint once too I'm sure but that might only be in Modelside. Will study up now I know it can be done as you suggest - thanks!
