Here is a quick TRUESPACE 7.5 render test. Using a sit down BVH imported motion clip and a stand up BVH motion clip and a Karate kick BVH clip. Rendered 800 frames in a stunning 3 minutes at 640 by 480 using Truespaces real time display. Rendered with aliasing set at 2. Took only 15 minutes to create everything.

This is yet another posting that could win the person posting it $100 off their next Caligari purchase.... if only they entered the External Gallery Contest with the link, that is!

Still very few entries in the contest, yet I am seeing people posting qualifying items - since the tricky part of making the animation and posting it to another site is already done, why not just take an extra 60 seconds to send in an email, could be the fastest $100 you ever saved ;)

Hehe, go Tom, go! :D

I think the real-time render quality is one of the most powerful aspects of the 7.5 for generating animations. Where else can you render HDTV resolution at .5 sec per frame?

As the community gets better at using the DX9 tools and cool new realtime shaders are added, I think we'll be seeing more and more impressive animations. ;)

The only reasons left to use software rendering is for refraction, reflection, caustics, SSS, and GI. Of those, SSS can be faked and we have a DX render to texture and environment mapping to fake reflections. So the main hurdles left are GI, and the effects of glass materials. Refraction may be workable with render to texture and a applying the correct distortion...and caustics can be faked with projection lights...

I totally agree about the REAL TIME RENDER ENGINE. Iam getting more stunning results all the time. In fact when I set the ANTI ALIASING to 3 and do some smart lights and advanced features Iam blown away. This is where 3d rendering is heading. Why wait hours for rendering when you can have quality results in minutes ... cooooool

Yes the test shows potential.

The following critique is not to you, jhowell:

It does look so "duh" (stupid) to see the characters fall into this strange knot. Like the animation example of the car that drove over a character: the character did not gradually fall down under the car but suddenly was compressed strangely under the car. Technically speaking, there are no constraints on the skeleton limbs when dealing with physical simulations. I hope you can see this!

Hi Leif, You are correct. I did not apply any skeletal restraints thus it does no look right. That is what Iam practicing with now. Skeletal restraints are fairly easy but take awhile to really master well. I will be practicing with them. If anybody has any tips or tests with skeletal restraints and Truespace physics let us know ....
