Hi, I'm very new around here... purchased tS7.5 and the Architecture bundle this morning - (what a wonderful offer!)
Ok, so now here I am with a lot of zips - wondrous treasures to be sure, but no readme or 'assembly sheet' that I can see .. *scratches head, hmm now how do I put all these pretty shiny's  together?
Ok.. of course I'm going to install tS7.5 first - I mean, surely I should?... and then the manual - oh yes, a manual! :)
uhm.. ok .. should I install the conversion pack, next? or... shall I start with 'Getting Started.. that looks like quite an extensive course.. and videos too...
ok.. being such a nooby, I'm thinking the architect's course should probably be last.. but.. that conversion pack.. should that be step no. 2? *glances around, nervous and embarrassed :o ... ................ Help! ..........pleeze? :D
.. and no, my posts are not normally so dramatic - after all, rarely do I find myself so overwhelmed with riches ... ^_^
*Edit: There is a Readme which you can read after installing tS, which tells you what to do before installing tS (like backing up libraries and such if you had a previous version of tS) |

Greetings butterpaw. You should install trueSpace7.5 to it's own directory. Follow that up with the manual installation. Once this is done proceed to the install the Conversion pack.
Once the Conversion Pak is installed, create a new folder in the trueSpace directory and call it courses. You should add individual course folders inside to match all the courses you have. This way they are all nice and organized for you. You can unzip the files into their respective folders, which should make finding what you need pretty straight forward.
Hope is helpful. :) |

Ah! thank you very much, Norm, that is most helpful. :)
I'll tweak as per your instructions (I haven't installed the conversion pack yet, and I do need to put the Tutorials into their own Directory ^_^) I hadn't got much further last night, because I started looking at the tutorials - and kept looking until I fell asleep in front of my 'puter. Wow, I must say the tutorials and manual are very very good!
However, as I installed the manual, I received an error message (a file that could not be found) but immediately afterwards the manual came up in my browser without difficulty. I will try reinstalling the manual so that I can capture the error message to post here... (If I get it, I'll add it to this post as an edit). As the manual came up, I'm not sure of its significance here.
Well, thank you again .. that was a very quick response! I'm off to carry out the rest of the installation
*Edit:
Here's the present error message (if I click from the html link in the folder itself. I rebooted but did not reinstall.. so I don't have that error message.
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/3756/errormsg01wq1.png
However, the manual does come up in the browser, but, the video tutorials which are a part of the manual, do not play, and instead the link (which appears to be correct) leads to a page with an url like this:
file:///C:/DOCUME~1/JEANNE~1/LOCALS~1/Temp/WMP1D.htm
I don't know if this should be a bug report, or is just something funky I've done.. I'd appreciate suggestions..

Hi, again,
Sorry to double post, but possible the edit of my post below does not show up as new information - please look at the edit, as I included an error message and description of a problem with installation/function of the manual.
and thank you ! ^_^ |

I think there was a patch to the manual made to fix this.... if I remember correctly it should be available from the regular download place. ;)

Oh, thank you very much, Jack! :)
I'll go and have a look right now.
^_^
*EDIT:
Oh dear, 25 minutes later, and I have not found the 'regular download area' I only find the one for my order .. or... one which allows downloading of demos of tS.
Do I need to access this from within the tS software?
Ok, I tried that too.. but no go.. I think my browser (Fire Fox) is not interfacing well with the Caligari site.. I had to telephone my order, in the end, and it appears I cannot get my form to go through for the Ambassador application or for technical help form... and possibly some other things.. Not sure what to do next.. emails and phone calls, I suppose :(
Eh, naughty little flies in the ointment, but the software is lovely
suggestions are welcome..

Not sure where you installed the pdf manual, but the link is pointing to a temporary directory. When I check my html file, the link for video points to my PDFMan folder inside the trueSpace install/ts directory.
When you ordered by phone, did they send along a cd to you?
You may wish to install and use Microsoft's browser IExplore (Internet Explorer), although I believe others here who use FireFox may have different results with accessing the repeat download area. Any firefox users with a suggestion on how to fill out forms(security setting perhaps)? |

I use Firefox to access the forums and download area without any problem. You have to allow cookies though for it to work. So might be worth checking your security/privacy settings.
The downloads area I referred to would be the same place that you downloaded Truespace from after placing your order. I don't have the link readily available at the moment, but Norm or Paul can probably get link it for you.
It maybe that the Manual download has been updated. In which case you wouldn't need the patch.
Sorry that's probably not that much help. :(

In trueSpace7.51 you can select the UpdatePatches in the Help menu. This will take you to the Repeat Download area. |

Thank you for your replies, all of you!
Several answers to these from me..
-I attempted to use IE as well as FireFox... neither works.
In Firefox I have allowed cookies, scripts and popups for caligari, the shop, and verisign .. no go.
-No disk order or sent.. perhaps I can get one later.
-videos and the pdfs installed in same folder. In the pdf, the link points to the correct file - however, when clicked it goes instead to an apparently non-existent temp file.
-reinstalled manual - Error message is:
unable to execute file C:\trueSpace75\tS\PDF Man\ts75_manual.html
Shell Execute Ex failed code 2
the system cannot find the file specified....
The software is sweet, and the tutorials are awesome - wow! .. My inclination is just to get on with it.. but the browser problem is definitely going to trip me up as time goes by.. I can't even join the Ambassador program, even though I filled everything out (twice!) Meanwhile I will go get out the 'fine-tooth comb' and go through Firefox's security settings again.
Thanks again for the kind responses.. I can hardly wait to get into the tutorials and get modeling! :D
cheers! ^_^
-------------------------------
*Edit no.1:Additional Note -this is the message received on the page after clicking submit for the Ambassador registration.
ADODB.Command error '800a0d5d'
Application uses a value of the wrong type for the current operation.
/web/Ambassadordoregister.asp, line 464
--------------------------------
*Edit no.2: Ok, here's my theory:
I may finally have run up against the 'need SP2 pack' wall. I installed it in the past but it crippled my computer and I had to return to a restore point, and was advised not to try installing it again. However, I think I've finally hit the rock<me>hardplace scenario.
The lack of Sp2 has prevented the installation of the Windows Media Player FireFox plugin installation .. which must be the reason for the videos not integrating with the manual, and it's quite possibly the reason for the incompatibility with some of Caligari's pages.
Since I hope to get a 64bit dual-core computer quite soon (also running XP-Pro (and with sp2), I think I may just try to limp along with things as they are for a bit longer. I just don't have time to deal with the likely fallout of an SP2 install at the moment, but having a second, fully functional computer in the array, would allow me to attempt updating this one with the least amount of angst. :o (oh yes, there's the real reason - I'm a wimp) ^_^;
So now I should move on to other matters, like learning this lovely program. :D and say many thanks to you all for helping me to solve my problem!! ^_^ |

TS makes use of a lot of ActiveX with it's scripting system. I wouldn't be surprised if you run into some problems with scripting on an XP system running SP1. Not sure, guess the devs would be the best people to ask on that one.
I've always installed SP2 on XP and I can't remember having any problems. *shrug* I'm running a Vista x64 system now. I can say that x64 (even the XP flavor) isn't really for wimps though, since you've got to do know where to go to get drivers for hardware. Fortunately you can still run your 32-bit software. That said, I've not had any significant issues with Vista x64 and the companies seem to be finally putting out decent drivers for 64-bit windows.
I do hope that Caligari will choose to offer a 64-bit version of TS when ts 8.0 comes out.
Good luck with learning the software :) and if you get stuck, these forums are a good place to get help and for things where you need a quick response contacting Caligari directly usually does the trick. ;)

The manual can still be accessed by navigating to it's folder and clicking on each chapter's PDF file.
The index is just an html file pointing to the slew of PDF's.
You can bypass the index and still read the manual.
As an owner of an 'elderly' computer I can sympathize with your plight.
Good luck, have fun and welcome to the caliForum! |

Thanks Jack,
Yes I read that about xp 64bit . some warning on New Egg. I think I've go help lined up for that when the time comes (well I sure hope so ). I keep learning even if I am a scaredy-cat. ^_^
Hoping to build my next computer .. under supervision. (baby steps). Son-in-law supervising, and 12-year-old grandson will most likely get in on the act, (he has already built one fully functioning computer himself).
well.. we'll see ^_^ |

Thanks Spacekdet, for the welcome, and for the suggestions..
Being much in line with my usual modus operandi, I immediately got busy following your suggestion and now I have readily available (and categorized) links to all the video tutorials and the pdfs.. everything works nicely! ^_^ |
