I have an idea... (where's the lightbulb icon when you need it?)
This is actually a question, but it's more of a question about the way my 'journey of discovery' with tS7.51 might prove helpful to others, while at the same time allowing those more experienced to chime in with related, and often better, observations. Bear with me, if you will, on a rather confusing journey of explanation (I'd really like you to understand, so that my question will make some sense, when I pose it)
PREAMBLE:
I viewed 'Getting Started with TS7' videos as a starter, and decided I should get to know the interface, before embarking on any building tutorials. So, I went back to view the first couple of ones more carefully and closely, and discovered that(as I should have realized) they are not going to relate exactly to TS75. This can be extremely confusing to a new-bee (buzz buzz) like me, when everything is new and unfamiliar.
One of the first things I encountered in the tutorial was the assertion that one could view a scene selected from the library window on the right, a 'clock' scene was mentioned.. so I wanted to try that... I went to look. Hmmm no clock scene - well yes I could see something else, but where's the clock scene? I knew I had seen that image on the Caligari site... so of course I wanted to see it. Looking in file folders with windows explorer, I could see I have it.. but .. how to get at it from the interface? Looking some more and not really seeing it.. I finally went back to the forum and the manual and searched for everything about libraries. I also looked at the icon helper .. and woohoo, I found one - it was called Library Browser! Ok, now did I need to add it to a toolbar somehow?.. Wait let me see.. is it on the interface already?... Yeah, you all know the answer to this one .. YES! lower right-hand corner ,pretty much right below the window containing library/panels/settings. :p duh me... staring me in the face all the time..
My point is I was toddling about with the same degree of delight and confusion as an infant on the loose in Toys R Us. :p hence, "Baby Steps"
Ok, if I come back to ask, every time I run into these things (I suspect there will be many) I'll drive you all buggy.
HERE'S MY QUESTION
But how about if I start a Baby Steps thread (ok call it something else maybe) somewhere .. it's not quite up to tutorials level) and just put in quick things like ..
Looking for a different library and don't see it? You need, the Library Browser - can't find that?
This is what the icon looks like [image] and in 7.51 you will find it in the lower right-hand corner of the interface.
I think, at the moment, I'm ideally placed to realize the things that new-bees are likely to find confusing (I mean real new-bees .. not the ones who are just moving up from 6.6 or 7. ;-)
So.. shall I? and where to place these little hints? or is this better on an outside site?
ok.. done.. chew on that :D ... oh ... did I say I'm a teacher and have been one for years? I just can't help operating this way. ^_^;
and thank you for your kind attention!

i think you have a point, some of the starting tutorials show you what you CAN do not HOW to do it. |

ROFL Classic12, don't worry.. I wasn't a school teacher.. the school-type situation can be rough, although there are some really good school teachers too.. I learned from one or two of them ^_^
I taught at the Kenya Conservatoire of Music, and nobody was forced to have lessons with me - I had a waiting list, even. People of all ages enjoyed learning with me, and they learned to play well.. some are playing in symphony orchestras today (as did I, at the time) ;) well that's the past, and this is now..
But, I do hope that I might be able to help some others get started on this wonderful software, while at the same I'm I finding my own way through its complexities. :D |

Hi butterpaw. Welcome to the forums! :jumpy:
I think the New User forum is the perfect place to post a thread like this, since New Users will come to this section for information like this.
Music teacher? Nice! My wife is a singer; she sings classical; her range is a G4 to a High A (I think that's what she said!) .
See you soon!

tS7 Libraries...don't get me started (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3122).
It's probably best that you are a newbie when it comes to figuring them out.
Good Luck! |

Aw, thanks so much for the welcomes!
spacekdet: AHHH!!
... and now I know why I did not find that thread with search .. to get it you have to type library-is or it won't come up - silly search engine couldn't stop at a hyphen? :P I had tried library, libraries, library* libraries* gah.. but I just didn't think to go search in rants lol. (I'll read up on that)
Prodigy: good points, especially that 5th one. :p I have to confess I missed out on Latin in school, but wish I had had the chance.. so... I look stuff up, and so I found out not only what that meant (although I could actuallly guess at it) but also that it comes from Seneca, but that Poe used it in the 'Purloined Letter' - cool!
frootee: Thanks .. I will set it up here in Newcomers' then. :)
mrs frootee via frootee: glad you're singing! I lost the top (surgery), but had studied bel canto and was lyric coloratura soprano (G3 - F6 -an agile, but unfortunately, not a truly beautiful voice) I still sing some of the old pieces now and again though, I just transpose them down - waaaaay down! :D - singing still gives me a trill ;)
prodigy: mrowwwwwwwwwr.. hack choke... *butterpaw slaps paw over face, then washes in embarrassment ... now where's my mouse? *peers under sofa...
classic12: yup magic wand ... :D but I think for me, 3d modeling trumps most other things these days ;-)
(Moderator, if this doesn't seem suitably serious, maybe you could move it into the ... eh......... what? .. no cafe? .... awwwwwww) :(
.... well, I hope I'll be given a little leeway, I promise to 'shape up', honest ^_^ |

Hi butterpaw. coloratura? Nice! I'll show this to mrs frootee (Nellja). Hopefully we'll be headed back to Dallas (totally cosmopolitan  ) from Virginia Beach (totally Boring  ) within the year.
The moderator / Administrator (Norm) is a mellow-fellow; this won't get moved / deleted. As long as there are no 4 letter words you're good. We typically vent our frustrations in the Rants n Raves forum.
Have a great weekend!

frootee - Virginia Beach? I''m in Chapel Hill NC .. pretty close by, .. but I agree Virginia Beach is kind of boring... Chapel Hill has more going - except..... my son and daughter-in-law, and almost-two granddaughter Jeannette (named for me!) and soon-to-be-born grandson are there ;)
Oh, and my favorite 4-letter words are love, food and play .. which, hopefully, shouldn't get me into too much trouble (except maybe food, lol)
However, my next post really will be about tS. specifically, ... <_< .... >_> ..... l-i-b-r-a-r-i-e-s ..... after reading the Rants and Raves about it... oh my, hot topic! ;)
:jumpy: it's Friday!! ^_^ have a lovely weekend! |
