Looks like you're using a Realtime DirectX material.
DirectX shaders are useless if your final goal is to render with Lightworks or VRay. Looks like you're using VRay for rendering, then you need to use VRay materials and shaders.
Dx materials are good if you plan to make realtime scenes (for use with truePlace) or for games. |

A good starting point is the VRay material library that comes with trueSpace,
not sure if it's visible by default, so here's how to find it.

Also, if you stay within Workspace environment (with the nice blue checkered floor) and use the color picker, double click on the color/reflectance/bump/transparancy balls to change between valid VRay color/reflectance/bump/transparancy shaders.
Then paint object with funnel-icon.

It becomes slightly more complicated if you are in the Model Environment.
There you can choose if you want to use the Lightworks engine or VRay for your renders, and the material editor then switches to whats valid for that engine.
This means that you might encounter problems if you switch engine later on.
For example, you start a scene, plan to use Lightworks, create a couple of materials..... later decides to switch to VRay, modifies some materials... and you might end up with a scene where some things look good when doing Lightworks renders and some when VRay'ing.
I always try to decide in the beginning what engine to use, switch trueSpace to that, and not change later on. |

Missed your answer when I posted mine...
If you previously had scenes and materials that looked good with Lightworks,
and you now bought VRay and have problems with them (am I understanding it correctly?)
it's perfectly natural (but not fun).
A Material can be made for either:
directX9
Lightworks
VRay
And they are not compatible, meaning, a material for one engine looks crappy in another.
Some things might be automatically translated when switching between Lightworks and VRay (?) but I never take that risk. As I said above, choose an engine and stick with it, it's a lot easier. |
