Here is one of those little dumb questions that I've been putting off asking.

I have an object selected, right click to enter point edit mode. I do my point editing and now I want to exit point edit mode. I have single object with lights out of view. What key would I press?

Right now I have to open LE and click on a light down there. I have tried everything else I can think of to get out but there must be another easier way.

Right click in an empty area of the 3D window exits PE mode.

Should also be able to exit by clicking on the white arrow icon.

In Model side clicking on white arrow was how I exited but doesn't work for me in workSpace. I will try again tonight.

Model side it's the arrow icon or I think the spacebar will also work. Workspace side it's the arrow icon. The arrow icon doesn't indicate it's been clicked or selected and the PE icons stay looking selected which doesn't help to clarify matters!

OK next question related to first. I click the "Up Arrow Icon Button" and it exits Point Edit mode, how do I unselect the object?
Remember no other Object or lights on the screen and I'm not entering LE.
If I place another object on screen with first one still selected won't it be attached or related?

Firstly, the arrow icon does show it's been clicked, my mistake (I was thinking of the painting tools - they're stuck like concrete!)

Anyway, just been having a fiddle. Absolutely no idea how to unselect an object other than slecting another one! Adding in another object doesn't join it to the selected object, it just switches the focus to the new object... UNLESS, and I just found this out, you are in point edit mode on an object when you try to add a new primitive. Then it's created already in PE mode and grouped to the current object. Bit daft that, surely it should shut down the PE stuff and create the new primitive just like normal?

So, that's a partial answer for you. Grouping queried and tested, unselect still a mystery....

Like Jack says right click in D3D Space works for me everytime. If you would like to use the Spacebar like it is in Model I have created these shortcuts for this here:

Yes, right click exits PE mode. Steinies question was how to unselect the object (so that you don't have any object selected)

Ah my bad... but what I suggested also kills to birds/questions with a single stone/Keyboard key. Now I see that Stienie was using the Heirarchy tool which would not be the correct tool to use in this case but the Object tool would work. HTH

You can right click on the primitive creation icon to bring up the creation parameters, click on the aspect drop down in the stack and select "default". There you can change the "Factory Mode" which is what determines if the primitive created is added to the current mesh.

Since Workspace doesn't have any boolean or mesh collapse tools yet, using the the PE mode and primitive creation is a useful way to add geometry to an existing mesh.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! Does anyone else feel the workflow doesn't feel right here? I know there are many ways to view your object while point editing. This is what I see with my preset color settings...
Move cursor over object, Mesh turns Blue.
Click or select object, Mesh turns bright Red
Right click mouse and you enter Point edit mode, Mesh turns Grey.
I want to view Object results with Texture already applied without seeing Mesh, and quickly go back to Point Edit Mode. This is the step where I am having a flow problem or a setting problem. I click and the Object turns from Grey to Red to Blue. I would like to go from Grey to Viewable Texture back to Grey. Sounds weird but from Point edit to Not selected back to Point edit quickly.

Try changing your Wire Highlight setting on the Desktop panel to "none" also check under settings with the 3D view the active window and set your edge opacity back to zero.
