Is there such a view on Model Side?

I can view them in Workspace, but then can't access the editing tools I require (evidently)?

I searched the forum and the manuals but couldn't seem to bring up an answer, which may mean 'no', but it might just mean searching isn't that good.

thanks!

Have you tried RMB clicking on your mesh, this should automatically open the point editing tools?

Are you talking about Workspace? or Model side?

I tend to get confused learning two areas concurrently, so I've been sticking to model side for a while.. but I went over to workspace to see what I could see..

Perhaps I haven't been clear in my question:

another simpler program I have used in the past, 3D canvas, offers the following - which are options for viewing your model as you work on it:

Smooth: renders objects smoothly.
Flat: renders all objects flat (creased).
Wireframe: renders objects in wireframe (lines).
Solid Outline: renders objects in a combination of the flat (creased) and wireframe modes.
Points: renders objects as a cloud of points.
Cartoon: renders objects in a simulated cartoon style.

Points is the one I am looking for in trueSpace. I seem to see that in Workspace, but did not see the same editing tools there. I think I right-clicked, as I would automatically do that in any case. However I can look again. Also, if this viewing option is available on the model side, I would like to know how to access it there.

thanks again!

If you mean is there a way to view vertices without edges in the Model side, the answer is no. Similarly if you want to make the vertices larger and more prominent on the model side, again the answer is no (both are improvements in the new workspace graphics engine).

Which tools is it you want to use in this view though? The PE tools on the workspace side should be up to the task, maybe someone can help give a good workflow if you tell us how you want to view the vertices, and what you want to do when you view them that way :)

Thanks!

Tom

Absolutely! I'll try to explain that when I get home and can also show an example, but briefly, I was removing faces (which needed to be removed). However at the edges I encountered some strange geometry from the boolean subtraction, and was attempting to clean that up. However, I made a mistake and could not undo (and was not saving every single step).

In many ways I could work around lack of direct handling of verts, but in this case, I totally could not get at the one I wanted to move, no matter what angle I approached it. If I could have seen the vertices as well as the edges I felt I could have untangle the problem.

I'll try again when I get home ... I always get time-barred .. needing to go to work... and when I get home I work until I fall asleep in front of the screen ... waking a while later and shuffling off to bed, :D.

Ok yeah, I'm obsessive - but I'm in learning mode. :p

After RMB clicking on the mesh the editing tools will appear as in the image below, note vertices are only visible when selected.

Ok JimB, I am getting the tools up on Model side, no problem - and yes the vertices only show when selected, making it very difficult to select certain ones. Most of the time this would not matter, but I was trying to deal with something how I would have in another program, which is not necessarily a good idea.

I do need to be pointed to a good workflow to achieve my purpose. So I will post my problem in Orbicles (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4306) in the WIP forum when I get home. :o

... and thanks! :)

You should have no trouble selecting specific vertices or anything else for that matter if you use the Perspective view, unless you have a very high density mesh.

Its worth noting that it is quite easy in TS to create bad geometry thats why theres a "Try to fix bad geometry" button.:)

ooh a button for that? eeeee  ... I must go find that

it was not a high density mesh, but being spherical and having a double shell, it was well nigh impossible to get to the spot where that vert could be activated. I think the inner and outer planes had crossed over each other ... a bit squiffy.:p

Yes that cloud of points is not possible in Model side, but is possible in workspace side. workspace has even better tools for selection, so you might want to try Point Editing it over there. Then you can have big chunky vertices (even visible when not in PE if you set it up that way), and various tools that shrink and grow selections etc that might help you grab any difficult vertex.

One thing, you mention one face pushing through another kind of situation - ensure you have your PE tools able to select back faces, otherwise it can be hard / impossible to select points inside an object (you just get access to the surface immediately in front of you).

A screen grab of the object (probably with vertices showing over in the workspace) might help folks here diagnose what is going on :)

Thanks!

Tom

Tom surely that should read : ( only visible when not in PE)

I thought you could set vertex size for non-PE and PE modes separately on workspace? Being happy with the defaults I havent done it, except a long time ago just for the sake of it :) Will have a look and see.

Thanks!

Yes there it is - start PE mode. In the stack, under Panels, the Mesh Editor Settings dialog opens. Click and hold on Default and move down to Soft. There you get a slider to control vertex size when in PE.

See attached :) The model is by Brad Bujak, not mine. Top right you see the slider.

This lets you set vertex size in PE and non-PE independently, to meet your needs.

HTH!

I have been trying to get large vertices visible in PE mode without success but there again being a newbie to TS7 it might be my fault (hopefully).

BTW I mentioned this on the Beta forum.

Made by Brad Bujak, a low poly version made in gameSpace - this and three other cars by him are available for download on the gS forums in fact. It's a nice model I think :)

Thanks!

Tom

here is a plugin that shows vertices in ts66 or modelside made by Chikara..it was free and CK 's site is gone so I'll post it here..
