Hi,

when I create a curve, eg circle, activate the Interactive Rail Tool, then

click on one of the control points on the rail, it immediately extends and

bends....if I try to undo it (ctl-z) it makes it worse! =O

What am I doing wrong????

Thanks!

You aren't doing anything wrong.
What it's doing is drawing the rail curve when you start clicking in the TriPanel.
If you are trying to edit the first curve (the circle) do it before you activate the rail tool. Alternately, you can edit after you've drawn the rail curve.
Right click the railed object, then use the arrow keys to cycle between the curves. When the desired curve is blue, right click it to enter curve edit mode.
Look this over and see if it makes any sense. (http://www.spacekdet.com/tutorials/loft_rail_tut/)

EDIT: Make sure you are in 'Point Move' mode rather than 'draw New Curve Point' if you are trying to edit control points.

Thanks, SK!

He makes it look so easy in the Basic NURBS tutorial....and
I'm sure it is, once you know what to do.....practice, practice,
practice. :D

ps- and thanks for the great tutorials! Didn't know they were there.

Still having trouble with the Rail Tool in 6.6....:(

Here's the curve just before I try to add a point (going by SK's instructions
and the Basic NURBS tutorial video):

and after! =O

Try adjusting the control handle on your top point- line it up so that it's pointing more in the direction of the previous point. Remember that the closed curve is being projected perpendicular to the flow of the rail curve. Abrupt changes in direction using the control handles can result in the surface being warped beyond what is desirable.
Switch to a wireframe view to clearly see the curve points and handles, and note what happens as you rotate your view. You are affecting the surface by moving the points and handles in two planes. See this by adjusting the handle on the top point in first one side of the draw panel, and then the other.
Make small adjustments at first.
It's normal, keep playing- you'll get the hang of it!
