Hi Folks, I'm a TS 7.5 newbie with a little experience with TS 4. I picked up the discounted Conversion Pack so I have more import options working with client product models for illustrations.

I've installed TS 7.5 and the conversion pack, and the pack's .dll files show up in the ts subdirectory. The help file says "...import settings are accessible from a panel, which can be opened by clicking on a button labelled “Import” in the preferences panel." Can someone direct me to the preferences panel? I first looked at the TS 7 preferences tab but that only has controls by context. I found other preferences for rendering, but I'm lost trying to find on related to imports.

While I'm at it, I can't find the paint/sample tools in the TS 6 mode. Any hints on where to look or how to add tools that aren't visible in the workspace?

Thanks in advance...

BJ

Firstly, make sure you are in Model view and not Workspace view.

Then use the drop down File menu on the Model window and select Preferences. The Preferences window will open with the import button.

I appreciate your quick reply. I'm looking at Model view now. The only File menu visible is one on the main window with the usual New Scene, Load, Save, Recent files, Hardware settings, and Exit options.

In the model window, I see a control for TS6 files that opens the TS6 preference panel.

Neither of the above have an import option so I'm either not looking in the right place or the correct file menu is hidden. Let me know if a screen capture is in order...

I have not worked with 6.6 or the model side in quite awhile so this information may not be quite accurate. Also, I do not have the conversion pack, so please bear in mind, installing it may be different from other plugins.

For most plugins, even though the dll's are in the ts subdirectory, you still need to add the plugin to the interface:

There is an icon that looks like a wall outlet plug. Click that. Then, select the dll for the conversion pack.

A truespace restart may be required for the changes to take effect.

Once this is done, I think you should be able to see the import preferences in the File menu.

I hope that helps; this is the process needed for most plugins; but, it may not be correct for the conversion pack, since I do not have that.

Hi Froo,

I've installed the LUUV plugin, so I'm familiar with the installation of plugins. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the way the Conversion Pack installation works. At least I couldn't see a way to treat the Conversion Pack as a plugin and the installation references the file-preferences-import way of accessing the import panel.

I appreciate your advice.

Hi BJN.

Well, at least, it was worth a shot! Sorry I couldn't help more than that.

Welcome to the Forums!

Not sure what the Import button referred to is for.

The methods I am aware of for using the Conversion Pack is simply to use the 'tS6 Files" menu and then Load -> Object or Save -> Object. Under the file types in the load / save dialog, a whole bunch of new ones will be there once CP is installed.

For those formats that have options, the Settings button in that Save / Load dialog should be available (greyed out where it doesn't apply).

When you are to "load" a file over on model-side, the ts6 Files menu allows you to load an object. You click that. That brings up the load file dialog. From this dialog, you see the drop-down list of file types. Say you selected DWG file format, when you select the file type, you will notice a "Settings" button on bottom right hand side of dialog. If it is grayed out, it means no settings exist. If available, the settings/preferences you get will vary between file types, depending on what was available. DWG is very comprehensive, while sat-binary is limited in settings. These settings are what the document is referring to. These settings would be considered "preferences".

Hope is helpful.

Looks like the documentation is a little out of date :) The settings are now context sensitive - rather than set in some global panel, they are now set using the Settings in the Load / Save, which will automatically display the settings relevant to the format you selected in the Load / Save window.

Sorry for the confusion there from the documentation!

Anyone else have a suggestion? I guess I'll have to call tech support.

Thanks,

Thank you all! The movie was above and beyond the call of duty and I very much appreciate the effort. Indeed, the TS6 Files/Load menu is the key (Model mode). Unfortunately the first .IGS file I tried didn't work but I'm pleased to discover that the TS4 .cob and .scn files I couldn't load with the standard import functions are available via the conversion pack.

I even found the eyedropper, funnel and paint roller icons, so I'm in business. I'll get back into the tutorials now that I'm confident the conversion pack investment works.

Cheers!
