Hello Everyone,
I've just recently had the time to learn about the TS 6.6 that I bought a few years ago. At that time it was my intent to develop my skills enough to create models and scenes for short movie clips on a freelance basis.
Having the ability to model something profitable outside of my normal corporate environment would give me a great deal of flexibility and quite honestly has been a goal for many years. With a little luck and a great deal of work in learning the TS program this seems possible now. I'm not expecting this work to make me the amount of money at my contracting but is certainly something that will be worthwhile to me.
The majority of my work experience has been with a high level engineering software, Unigraphics. Unigraphics was not a powerful program when I started using it in 1988 but evolved into a very complicated and precise system. I lucked out by having a bit of experience before it became as popular as it is now.
I should also tell you that I'm a mechanical designer and the modeling skills are a big part of that position.
As for TS, I'm very impressed with it. For the price of the program and the plug ins it's a fantastic tool.
There are so many useful functions that I don't even know where to start. The modeling capability is great, use of animations and all the controls required for making clips are all logical and work well, and the lighting and texturing allows for so many variations.
And..as for this forum, thank you all for the work that you've done. I've already learned so many things from coming to visit here over the past 3 weeks.
The TS forum is a great place to learn the tricks of getting things to work as you know that they can in the program. The commitment of so many highly skilled and generous people is surely appreciated by me and countless more that have come to browse or find an answer.
As for a specific question to pose here today, I don't have one. There are some projects that I'll be posting soon though so that I can share what crazy things that I'm doing and get some tips and hints from the group that might make my work better (or in many cases, possible :) ).
This will surely be fun!

Welcome home Slang!:)
I would like to envite you to join us in multi-user realtime online shared space whenever you have the time.:)
One of the most innovative and amazing things about being a part of this Caligari Community here is that you are able to actually construct models and scenes which can actually be visited and explored in realtime online by many visitors simultaneously from all over the planet.
We meet together every week here in online places where we have directional audio (as well as a text chat window), scripted interactive objects, animated objects, incredible scenes, and much more. Most of all though, we all have a lot of fun together and it is always a learning experience which we each benefit from.
I understand you have trueSpace6, which unlike trueSpace7 and 7.51 does not access these places directly for actual collaborative realtime multi-user modeling and realtime collaborative scripting. You still can come to these places anytime however, simply by downloading the free "truePlay" software from Caligari and registering (also free) for "truePlaces" at the Caligari website (all links provided below).
As a matter of fact, even your colleages, friends, and family worldwide can meet you in these places themselves without even having to own any Caligari software themselves, all they need to do is download "truePlay" and register for "truePlaces" (where we hold these meetings - but you can also hold your own any day and anytime) all of which is completely free of charge! Why make an international call when you can meet live here online and speak face to face 24/7!!
I am one of the original founders of (and ongoing host / contributor to) the Tuesday Night Script Developers Meetings held online here weekly. Although you cannot use script in trueSpace6 architecture, trueSpace7 and above provide us with the capability to harness or even modify the software tools of trueSpace itself to produce truly stunning and versatile new capabilities which open entirely new doors for each of us, many of which are indeed very profitable.
These "script" meetings are visited by many people who have no "scripting" experience whatsoever, but everyone has fun at these meetings and learns a great deal of interesting new things every week so you really should drop in there some time. I think you would enjoy shared space meetings with us all a great deal, and we would love to have you join us there anytime you can.
I have provided a great deal of information about all this for you in the form of additional page links below, and I hope to see you online some time there soon. I guarantee once you have tried this you will love it and also love it's unprecedented financial potentials as well.;)
No "welcome" to Caligari's Community is complete without a "welcome to shared space" as well, it is the future of 3D itself, and Caligari is the clear vanguard in this field worldwide.
So Welcome to shared space Slang, one of the most interesting places on Earth!:)

Welcome aboard Slang. :)
Thank you Burnart. I see that you are also using the TS 6 and that the copy that you use is not even on a machine that you own, but a work machine that you model during lunch hours.
I'm impressed with your models. You must be very quick in making them too.
Welcome, Slang! nice to have you here :)
Thank you ButterPaw. That's a very cute name.
Truespace seems to support most of your (listed) interests. Maybe some musical composition plugin is in the future? :D

Thank you Dragneye. Your avitar is looking very cool.
I see that you are working with TS6.6 also. It's nice to see that there are still people using the TS6. There's no doubt in my mind that the TS7.5+ is fantastic and I'll most likely be upgrading at some point. The TS 6 is still pretty complicated if you ask me.
Yes, the more time working with the program the quicker creating gets. The trouble is that I don't want a gradual increase in skills, I want to be able to make anything I can imagine just as it looks in my head...all in the next 2 weeks. :D
Gotta have goals, eh.
Welcome home Slang!:) I would like to envite you to join us in multi-user realtime online shared space whenever you have the time.:)
Thanks and yes, I'm interested. Great intro to TruePlay and TruePlaces also. It sounds like a very practical system and fun too. |

I signed in and loaded most of the places available through the forum yesterday.
My connection here in the Phils is often slow, sometimes as slow as 8kbps, but the places are now in my machine and I can enter the rooms without a huge wait.
My navigation skills in the rooms are a bit awkward now but I am enthusiastic about going there regularly.
Thanks for the invite. :) |

My pleasure Slang.
I'm always happy to see folks discovering the great potentials of all this stuff. It's an amazing technology with a truly enormous untapped future worldwide. As designers that puts us in a very nice position indeed.
Be sure to check out the last two links I provided above too, about immersive desktop development. That's yet another way to utilize all this technology offline, and can be used to design and deploy CD's of your own immersive design for others to explore in truePlay themselves, worldwide.
I guess I'll be seeing you online then sometime soon, and I'm very glad that you decided to join us all in this!

Hey slang! Welcome to the Forums!
My apologies to the long-delayed response here. I'm coming back online, so to speak.
As 3dv mentioned, we have a Tuesday night scriptor meeting every Tuesday in shared space. We're having one tonight! The fastest way to get an answer to a question is to ask it. On Tuesday nights we have a mix of experts, from scriptors, to hyperspeed modellers (aka Prodigy! ); everyone is more than happy to answer your questions. So if you get a chance come on by!
Also this Thursday night is the TNL! (Thursday Night Live!) event, hosted by Caligari. Roman Ormandy (CEO) is going to be covering a lot of cool stuff; this is the Holiday Party! Complete with Christmas Ornaments and a tree!
Hope you can make it!

Hey slang! Welcome to the Forums! ........Hope you can make it!
Thanks Frootee. Yes, this TruePlace is exciting, an interactive place to meet with people from far off places without having to leave the house.
If you think about the possibilities this makes a great deal of sense. If you are someone that would like to or is currently telecommutting you can see how the technology is evolving.
This is probably not the intent of TruePlace but working with people online via this system could very well be possible.
Think about it. If you can have 2 people together online interacting together with both sight and sound, why not 6 people....why not 100? Imagine the projects that this many people would be capable of.
I'm sure that I'm not seeing things exactly as most of the senior people here do but it's exciting to me. Virtual meetings, learning, and playing. |
