Hello everyone.

It's been a while since I posted here, as I am no longer such an active user of TS. However, every now and then I do find a feature or two I might find useful in TS which my other apps can't do. I recently heard that TS7.5 can export to the Collada format. It's weird that owning 7.5, I was not aware of this. And, indeed, when I checked the manual, there it is in Appendix C: "COLLADA export". However, when I do File > Save as... > Object , COLLADA export is a no-show on that list. Am I missing an upgrade or something? Or there some alternative way to access this functionatily on the Workspace side? Also, how do I export in BVH format?

The way I do it although I have nothing to test the collada export in is this:

In the Work Space scene library - Insert as Collada file (right click in scene library)

for BVH

It's "Insert as BVH file) then (right click to export from scene library as BVH file)

I to this, so I have a backup for one and the original bvh.

The BVH file works fine.

As I said, I don't know if collada export works as I have no program that I can test it in.

I just use the tank girl with handles (from the Library/Models as the surrogate since it is ready to be animated, use the timeline to adjust the motions and then export as described above.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I must not have understood something, because I still can't find the collada exporter. Here is what I see when I right click on the Scenes Library:

As you can see, the Insert as Collada file option is missing from my version of TS. I did find the BVH import option (still looking for the export of that one as well). I really must be missing some sort of update that added those options, as they simply can't be found. It is very frustrating. Can you post a screenshot?

To export selected object in Collada, right click/Insert As in an empty space within the library.
To Export a BVH file, right click/Export on the BVH icon.

Following the instructions above, I managed to do it. Here are a couple of videos
For new people who don't know how to create a new library.
(I always create a library of what I'm working on)

And for the actual export.
10223

And I see trublue also did a screen print above... If one don't do it - the other one will

Hi, thanks for your message, TrueBlue (and also, Merry Christmas). I saw the WMV you posted, and I have two questions:

1. Did you select any special options when you created that Libary? For example, what Type did you select on the Create Library Dialog? Cause my libraries all show only four options, for the Rs* file types.

2. I noticed you seem to be using TS 7.51. I have 7.5. I didn't even know that there was a 7.51 version. Another difference: my version does not have FILE and Help Menu when in Workspace. Was Collada export added on this version I don't seem to have? How can I upgrade to 7.51? Why then, does Collada export appear documented on 7.5 manual?

Actually, it was my videos, and yes, 7.5 should have the collada export as well. I added the Library just normally. I named it Collada so I would know what I was putting in it.
My version has the FILE and HELP menus because I added them myself. I started doing that wil version 7, so I honestly don't remember if it was already there on this version. :D
If you are missing collada options when you right-click in a scene library then you should probably send a quick e-mail to support@caligari.com They usually get back with you within 2 days.

Quick thought... did you try to do the export to an object library instead of a scene library?

Hi kena,

What exactly was added in 7.51? I hadn't heard anything about that update. I don't remember from exactly which Library I was right-clicking, but I think the result was the same on both types. However, let me check it out tonight, and I'll post back.

I don't think this issue merits contacting support, as this is really about me not being able to find the option. If I still can't do it after this, then perhaps I'll contact them.

as far as I know, some bugs were fixed in 7.51.. It was a free upgrade, so maybe you should try applying it... Maybe colada support was part of it? Not sure. Anyone else?

Hi kena,

I installed 7.51, and, indeed, now my options appear correctly. I haven't yet tried the collada export, but now I know where to find it. It seems that, indeed, COLLADA export was part of 7.51 update. Thanks for all your replies.

Ah... That makes sense then. I just knew that there had to be a reason you didn't see it before. :D

I have one final question: where does it save the exported file? It doesn't ask for a file name.

It saves it in the same directory as the other folders. Default would be a sub-folder in RS Scenes directory.

Fastest way to find it would be to do a search in your TS directory for the name of the object.
