Hello all,

I am currently running the TS7.5 trial (until caligari receive my check).

I am currently attempting to add a custom texture(jpeg) onto an object in the Workspace without success. I can import the texture, but unable to place this on the object or into the texture editor.

I can go into the model side, add texture/transparency, go back to the workspace, and then edit or even change these, but if for example, I have not added a bump map in the Model side, then I cannot add a bump into the Workspace material editor.

I have looked around the forum, but cannot find any info on this.

Any help would be appreciated,

Regards,

You can only upload 5 pictures at a time here, so this will be a multi-post mini-tutorial on How to create Textures If you are using real-time shaders. Let us know if you need instructions for V-ray

01 drag the BlankDXMaterial onto your link editor.

10433

02 Open it by clicking on the yellow square

10434

03 Here is what it looks like

10435

04 Open the Library browser

10436

05 right-click to create a Library Place and name it

Then right-click on your Library Place and Create Library

10437

06 Name it and make is a .RsMat Library

10438

07 Double-click to add it to your Library pannel - here is mine

10439

08 Open all the shader types

10440

09 Drag a shader into your link editor and attach it to the coorisponding link in your Material

You do that by click-drag from the bottom name to the correct place.

10441

10 Here is a brick texture I am working on

11 go up one level by clicking on the yellow triangle

10443

12 Rename the texture in your Info Pannel

10444

13 right-click in your Library and insert the texture

10445

14 you can now use this texture

I'm defiantly not the best at this, but I had such problems getting to this point, that I figured I would help you out here.

I have not used the Demo but in tS7.5.1 you can apply a texture by first:
1.) Double click on the blue Color sphere.
10446
2.) Double click on the Texture icon. Caligari image.
10448
3.) Ctrl + Double click on the caligari texture Bitmap Control or click on the File Picker to load your image.
10447
4.) Apply your material with one of the Paint tools on selected item.

mini-tutorial on How to create Textures If you are using real-time shaders. Many thanks for the tutorial, I can see I will have to spend some time with the real-time shaders.

I did notice on your "Library browser" that you have a different list of shaders than my current setup, is this due to my having V-ray installed? as the only shaders I see are for V-ray.

Let us know if you need instructions for V-rayWhen you have time, yes please, I would be interested.

From the actual process you show, it does remind me of the texture creator "Mapzone", so I am not completely lost with such process, I may just need nudging in the right direction.

Again, thank you for your time, very good info.

Regards,TrueBlue gave you the info I have on V-ray. I don't know why you don't have those shaders... I also have V-ray, and I have version 7.51 Truespace.

Hi kena,

Maybe due to my currently using the trial? I am unsure at this point:

I know TS(trial) keeps crashing

quite possible... and TS crashes on me regularly too. Waiting for the next one for a bit more stability. It crashes much less often than the previous version anyway.

Here is an idea...

Open the textures that you have, and you can do a CTL move to a library you create in order to get the Other texture types.

quite possible... It may be that the shaders you show are classed as plugins? The trial version does not allow the use of plugins. and TS crashes on me regularly too.I am not concerned at this point with the problems I am having with the crashing of the trial. When I have the full version, if I still have problems, then I will be more concerned.

One problem I did notice while looking at the "Library browser" is that if OLE~Object Linking Embedding is interrupted from TS against svchost (for directory lookup) then TS will crash due to D3D Device, whereas it should just be giving error.

@Kena and trueBlue

If I may join in here with related question?

(I've been following with interest because using shaders (and texturing, materials and rendering generally) has been rather mysterious to me, andI have found the various threads about rendering a bit confusing.

Is V-ray a part of 7.51? Or does it need to be purchased and installed?

If it's part of 7.51 I am certainly looking forward to trying out the tutorial and instructions :)

VRAy is like a plugin for trueSpace and must be purchased and installed. It is an excellent addition to TS.
If SIW can get Dribble working on this side of the bridge I would have everything I could ever want, VRay, DX9 (likely DX10 in the future) and 3Delight.

edit: I may have read your question wrong butterpaw, are you asking if VRay is in the Demo package? I too read his reference of owning VRay but using the TS Demo, that was confusing.

I am currently using the demo version of TS7.5 with the demo of V-ray.

I am making purchase of both TS7.5 and V-ray (Payment just sent)

Ah, ok.. now I understand :) Eventually I will be able to do some of these things.. just need to climb out of the present financial hole that medical stuff dumped me into ;)

Meanwhile there is plenty else to learn ^_^

Meanwhile there is plenty else to learn ^_^Hi butterpaw,

The editing/ creation of the DX9 materials as shown by kena is not dependant on having V-ray. So you can follow those instruction from kena and create your own DX9 materials.

@ kena,

I have just made a clean install of TS7.5 without V-ray. But I still see the same set of shaders ~only for V-ray (none you show in your post). So it looks more of a limitation placed on the trial.

I will just have to wait for my full version to arrive.

Hi butterpaw,

When I get the full version (should be early next week) with all shader options, we can learn together (if you would like?).

Certainly (IMHO) such should not be a mystery, with some need to purchase some help file/video. If the help file/manual is lacking on this info, then it requires updating.
