Hello I am a new user to truespace 5.2 and so far the experience is a little rough. the user interface is so different it is like going from ones car to an airplane. This would not normaly be a big problem but it seems that the manual is a little vague in explainng the tools it is great on the what the buttons do but it seems to lack the how to do. I find it very easy to get the interface messed up and then things happen in ways that are unexpected. and it takes me hours to find what did I change in a global or local preference that is making this hapen this way ..... for exMPLE THE POLYGON options has an auto diveide choice at one time I must have activated this and it took me days to figure out what I did to get this to stop. A nice feature but the time I take looking and figuring robs me of time practicing and doing. Then when ever I search for a tutorial it mostly comes with a price tag.

I bought the software because I liked the idea of having a suite of tools to take me from model to animation with little or no other tools needed.

I have ideas that want released so for now I am frustrated..... not sure wether 7.5 would please me more and not willing to invest that far to get maybe more frustrated .... so with that said .... I would like to know is there a forum on here where someone is sharing thier expeience in modeling tips and stuff like that....

When I google truespace I get very little out there ... you go to you tube and there are a ton of videos showing other systems and software where do you all show case you vids?

thanks in advance!

You can check out the Work in Progress and the Garage forums here.

And you can always start a WIP in the Work In Progress and ask specific questions... Most of us will be more than willing to help out.

There is a learning curve with 3D software, just not trueSpace. However the rewards you will receive once things start clicking are addictive and life changing. Once your hooked the Journey can be quite enjoyable. Don't give up!

It has taken me about a year and a half to understand the basics of 3D software.

Patience is what is required.

Technique comes with lots of practice.

Then there is the talent factor - of which I have none, so I cheat a lot with 2D fix ups or view angles. :)

The videos by Caligari are pretty good.

The one that inspired me the most was the one by 3DBuzz in the GameSpace area. Watch that sucker over and over, it has a lot of hidden learning factors in it and the best part - it is free!

It's the one on modeling the elf.

Thanks I am not a quitter, so I wont be. it just seems that so far this software does not have the internet base that others do. I am currently working in it and I am learning it and comparing it's strengths and weakness to the pros and cons of blender. not that I think blender is the greatest suite out there it is just the amount of examples and tutorials available freely make it a more conducive environment to learn in. One should not have to pay for the keys to unlock the abilitys built into a software.. no not the plugins those are great I mean the actual built ins that if you do not trip over them you may not find them. modeling in 5.2 seems to be a little archaic, even for an older version.

anyhows... things I am still struggling with so far are these and perhaps 5.2 will not have these capabilities but until I know I am compelled to search for them.

skeleton tools seem to be very quirky computer adds bones to places not near where I click for no certain reason. sometimes the add branch option only wants to start a new branch is this me my pc or software? need to know on this one cause if the rigging tools do not work well then this software will be a waste of my time to learn....

Modeling mirror tool that will do work on the model not just mirror whole object but when a change is made to one side it is updated in opposite side?

sculpting like abilities that will make modeling faster not just deformation tools but tools like the ones in sharp construct or cbmodelpro or even blender sculpt mode... using these I can model very quickly to get my ideas done..

here is a video I made working on a model to show the ease of cbmp... only a modeeling tool

http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1643684HHm6j3NC

I have been able to import them into TS 5.2 but then when I go to rig them I struggle with the skeleton tools..... as described above .....so I went to a simpler model made of rounded squares and spheres and cylinder to see if it was the models density that made my ts problematic but even then the rig tools are quirky ...so I then took a model off the list of included like the alien without the bones and tried to build a skeleton inside him and again it fights me... so ....

like I said am not a quitter I do have a goal for all of this this is not just a time to pass hobby. but can not begin to work on true goals until skills are up to date.....

BTW the elf tutorial is one of my favorites and I do still watch them and go thru them to see what can be done in that mode. it also help me to understand the rigging tools as well as skinning tools so I hope my journey will bring good results with ts

BTW I purchased the anipak for it as well for the skeleton tools...

Regarding trueSpace5.2 interface and tool settings, if you inadvertently change a tool and not sure what you did, shut down trueSpace, visit the installation folder and find a file named trueSpace.cfg. This "cfg" file is the trueSpace configuration file. If you delete it, you will force trueSpace to start in its default configuration, as if it was just installed moments ago. This restores all tools and settings to a default state, which will help you until you get a feel for the various global and default settings for tools and such.

Norm that was an answer I needed thank you very much... prior to my reading your post I had started a new scene placed a rounded cylinder in it . then went to edit it work fine then went to a new scene and did the exact same thing and in edit mode could not selct any edges vertices or faces to adjust at all restarted it and got the same problem...... deleted file that you described resrtarted and it all works again. Went into some objects that I wanted to rig and the skeleton tool worked smooth again.

now this next question is can I save an empty scene after I delete and RESTART TO GET A FRESH INITIALIZATION..

will that work as well? so I can rest to fresh config whenever I want?

either way the help was perfect at this time .... made me more hungry to practice in this tool!

thanks friends I think I am gonna like this software after all with the animation tools from anipak and the advice in here I have to give rigging credit to the buzz videos but here is a model from CBmodelpro animated in truespace 5.2 using puppeteer.

thanks for help and patience I know this is just a beggining the video is just a model moving I only rendered 300 frames then I looped 4 time to give it alittle to watch.. purely random test type stuff and of course first TS5 animation!
