quickie render of some stuff using Vray on the model side.

Question: Why are the VRay Shader Libraries empty?

Nice metal bottle... What do you men "empty"? I have several textures in my Vray libraries.

Yeah, it looks like that now after I re-installed. :D
Have no clue why it didn't show up before.

Okay, one more render and I'm good for awhile.

Very nice render, after a lot of practice I might get good at it. :D

getting better.... Your bottle looks like a line-drawing, but I forgot what settings to use...

Personally, I find the glass shader hard to work with and usually use Frenzle instead.

The Red Rubber Ball also looks a bit off... Try making it a bit more shiny It looks like it's old and tired ;)

Pretty nice vray renders. I have seen that issues with black glass outline. Prodigy is the master vray glass man. Maybe he can give you some tips.

I dunno how to fix the black lines.

Here's the milk bottle if anyone wants to download it and then show me what settings and what methods they used in getting a nice glass render.

I was reading the VRay.pdf (page 26) and came across a rendering of a glass using the "glass shader" It also had the black lines around it. The next picture used the "Fresnel Shader" and there where no black lines. Evidently the Black is caused by the object's surface face angle to the viewer and how that is handled by shader. Worth exploring.

I gave your bottle a spin with Vray - GI + Caustics and got that

result with the glass shader.

Vray is a biased renderer which makes it fast but has some problems

with that kind of object and shader combination.

In the next post you will see the same object and a flint glass shader

in a biased and a non biased renderer both Kerkythea .

Here is the examples with Kerkythea and the same object .

Kerkythea is a free renderengine. I have already posted about it on this

forum

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3960&highlight=kerkythea

The objects are both biased ( photon mapping ) and unbiased (Metropolis

light transport-MLT ).

In the bubble under the bottle you will see the great improvement

over a biased method. Its basicaly physicaly correct.

The drawback is that you have to let it cook for half an hour at 500 x 500

so you need time ! you can have it cook longer it gets better and you can

turn it off when you like the result.

Another unbiased renderer is Maxwell but thats very expensive (not much

better then the free Kerkythea - my opinion )

Hope that jack Edwuards makes the exporter very soon for Truespace !

Wow! Thanks Rayman for the in depth exploration on the milk bottle and rendering!

I like the metropolis kerkythea one the best.

That is some clean glass there!

Thats not all it does well !

Every surface you can imagine can be

made from frosted copper to mother of pearl materials

and even nice Carbon fibre.... it has a layered material

and sublayered material setup

see the examples
