I had thought of writing an importer/exporter for TS7.5 that converts .x, .3ds, .scn, and other file formats to formats that a game engine I have heard of called Torque Game Engine Advanced can use. I plan on buying it after I can get the money (it's over $200 for an Independent Developer (indie- pronounced "inn-dee") license).

The problem is, I'm not the best programmer around, and I still haven't mastered even the basic programming languages. So that's the bad news, but...

the good news is you can buy (or try) a 3d modeler that currently supports tons of different formats. It's called Milkshape3D, and I think the price is $30. I believe it also comes with something called "Milkshape2dts exporter", and .dts is a format used by Torque!

I hope this helps all of you who use Torque, when converting your models and animations! :)

Also, i'm not positive of this, but Torque might support other formats too, like .x or .3ds.

Any other thoughts and/or ideas are welcome!:)

you might want to try gamespace - http://www.caligari.com/gamespace/
or the TS game pack - http://www.caligari.com/Products/trueSpace/ts5/plugins/caligari/gamepak/default.asp?Cate=Caligari

They both have "some support for Torque"

So far as I know, the Torque game engine supports only it's own .DTS format (and animations in a format called .DSQ), but they have exporters for MilkShape, Lightwave, several versions of 3DS, Maya and some others I can't think of at the moment.

In the TS Game Pack is a version of MilkShape included, although I do not know if it is the full retail version.

There is a UV Mapping program called Ultimate Unwrap 3D which has support for truSpace .cob file, Torque .dts export and import (not DSQ), MilkShape, 3DS, Maya 2008, .X, .XSI and a variety of other formats that you might find 'free' models in. Disclaimer: I have not personally tested every one of those formats here.

UU3D also does a good job of allowing you to remake UV maps, which is why I bought it. But it is about the most versatile file converter, if you leave out game mod formats like Max Payne 2 and Doom3.
