Hello,

I have been working mainly in the workspace (7.51). I do like the sweep tools, but, I see that when sweeping a plane that this is left as hollow. Am I missing an option/ key stoke for this?

My main reason. I know there are no booleans currently in the workspace, but, quite frankly, I do not like these anyway (possible problems with added un-needed geometry), so I normally create a plane, cut/ shape etc, then would sweep into solid, but with TS workspace this create a hollow, with then problems/time of creating faces.

Am I just missing something? or is this just not possible yet?

Hope I put this forward understandably,

Regards,

(creating double face just adds to problems)

Why not sweep a cube instead of a plane? Can you show an example of the shape you are sweeping and the finale shape you want.

If you mean you end up with a hollow "tube", you can add faces by using Edge Loop to select the loop around the missing face, then click Form Face, and there you go.

Not sure if that is the problem you describe, but just in case!

Hello Steinie,

I can understand what you mean, but I am looking to create a solid shape quickly / easily.

A very simple example (sorry I deleted all the attempts I was making trying to find other methods):-

Yes, you could put forward that such a solid can be made via a cube, but, there would be possible problems at the internal corners (overlap of vertices's), and to create such should only take a minute if not less, but sweeping a cube for this? and then actually welding, which does not appear to weld, but just move to position (weld and then add SS to see what I mean)

Hello TomG,

For simple shape, I would agree, but for example the above shape I posted, if I attempt to make such a "Loop select" then "form face" it cannot handle the hole.

Hmm I got a similar result to you. You could use the Model side and use Add Face, which in my test example worked.

Will raise this question on the beta list.

Hi TomG,

You could use the Model side and use Add Face,For various reasons/ problems, I have the bridge deactivated. Crossing the bridge is not an option for me.

Will raise this question on the beta list.

Thanks,

I was posting really only for clarification, as I found nothing in the user manual about this.

{Time for plan B}

for that example, considering you don't want to cross the bridge to model side, where it can be done easily, you could do it with a cylinder [8 sides]. then polydraw you inner cube on both end faces of cylinder ..delete those faces, creating the gap, then use the bridge/blend tool to finish..

For the model above, yes, but that was just a simplistic example. The model I was attempting was for a shape with 8 various shaped holes.
I did attempt to bridge etc, but I could not create a single bridge, and this led to a number of problems (with added SS-> tears in model) as the bridges did/would not all weld together.

then I suggest you save your scene and go do it with boolean on modelside, which would be the easy way

as for your autoload issue in your other post..unfortunately thats how truespace now works.the checkbox in model preferences doesnt work and if it did it would only do it on model side..it shouldnt be there anymore...many of us don't like how it now works but they at caligari seem to.:(

then I suggest you save your scene and go do it with boolean on modelside, which would be the easy wayIn any modeler I use, I tend to stay away from booleans, I always find that the modeler tends to remove or add geometry when making boolean (and not always what I want). So with a sweep to solid from a plane, I have what I want for later editing (without a need to start removing geometry added by the modeler~ or put back what was removed)

you can boolean without adding geometry..right click the any boolean tool..check delete edges, uncheck triangulate..if for some reason you still get unwanted geometry[which you shouldn't] you can do a ghost boolean, which is to put a cube in your scene not touching the object then do an object subtract..with delete edges checked.

Hi Stan,

I will have to go on the model side and check. I know TS always removed pre-placed geometry from flat surfaces after boolean, is this the same, or is there an option to prevent this.

so all edges on a face don't get deleted uncheck delete edges
glue all drill object togeather, it works better;)

Hi Stan,

Thanks for the info.

I have just been on the model side, every time I select and hold one of the icons TS take 100% cpu.
