If I sweep several faces together on a curved surface, each point moves up along a line from the center of the curve (in this case the center of the sphere). Is there a way to adjust the distance of the sweep such that the points continue to sweep along their original tracks? Or can the distance be set in advance for the sweep?
So far, after the original sweep, it seems that I can only move the points in parallel, but I can't continue moving the points together in the same directions as the sweep, but to a greater or lessor degree.
Thanks for any clues. |

Hello john,
I am not sure whether this is what you are looking for, but you could change the coordinate system to local by pressing 'Q'. That will align the widget and should let you allow to drag the faces in the direction of the original sweep.
You could also go into the model view and use the sweep tool there. That one has more input controls if you right-click on the sweep icon.
Hope this helps

Thanks Da Dude,
Neither idea will do what I want. Note, in my screen shot above that the edges which were created during the sweep all converge or "point at" the center of the globe. The points have traveled outward so that the faces which were swept are actually a little bit bigger.
But now, any further moving causes them to move in parallel - they don't continue to expand or contract along the same track as I move them out or in. The edges cease to converge at the sphere center.
I can expand outward by repeatedly sweeping numerous times, then "merge polygons" to eliminate the layers (see new screen shot), but it still doesn't allow me to control the exact height nor can I reduce the sweep. I can only add another full sweep outward. |

In Workspace:
Enable the "Distance feedback display"
Select the poly(s) on surface to sweep, then select the "Normal sweep" tool.
You can then press "Ctrl" (keep it pressed) then left click on one of the poly and drag. |

It almost seems strange seeing a post that is not about MS/Caligari and actually gets back to the program itself...:D |

Thank you Stem!! Holding the control key with "Normal Sweep" is what I was looking for. You just saved me a lot of time. Thanks.
As for Caligari merging with MS, it's like when the beautiful girl I had a crush on married a big rich bully and told me that we would still be friends. Sure. |

Hi John,

I have what I have from TS, if it goes no further, then so be it, I will certainly lose no sleep. I just hope that the support forums will remain whatever!
