Hi,

I updated my PC (from a notebook with shared memory) to a quad-core, 4gb, geforce 8800gt machine because of several reasons, one of them was my purchase of the ts6.x -> ts7.51 /wo vray upgrade (christmas offering)

But it seems that from a functional point of view, without vray I have a lot of problems. For example, I drag and drop one of the pre-defined dx9 objects (the bald face) and can see it very nicely in the dx9 preview window.

For rendering, I have switch to model (to use the lightworks renderer), and render. But somehow the "textures" aren't converted - at least the rendering looks totally inferior compared to the dx9 preview (apart from aliasing). So if the materials aren't been converted, I somehow must believe that it is necessary to upgrade to vray, or enable aliasing in my directx setup by default (if its possible) and render to file via the dx9 preview window.

For me I am disappointed, because I don't get too much functionality regarding the dx9 stuff from the upgrade. :( If I want to render, I have to stick to the model part of the app all of the time and set the materials; It seems I cannot re-use the stuff done in the dx9 part for the lightworks renderings (but vice versa seems to work, I get a nice dx9 preview). Or am I missing s.th.?

I find it really a bit embarassing. I still like the whole caligari ts concept but there are other players aswell.

Workspace and Modeler are like two different softwares. If you load a Workspace object and try to render it in Modeler, you will experience the same kind of issues as if you try to render a Max scene in Blender. The Bridge translates most of the things but not everything.

If you plan to render with Lightworks, I would advise to build and texture everything in Modeler, with Bridge turned off.

If your goal is to use Workspace's real-time renderer then you can work in Workspace, with Bridge off also.

Bridge On or Auto can lead to approximations and even loosing objects (it happens sometimes if you have some objects in hidden layers !) so you should use that functionality to transfer objects from one side to the other with caution.

You can render DX using the Render to File icon on the flyout with the Manual icon.

The DX settings for super sampling and bloom are accessed on the settings tab of the stack when the 3D view is the active window.

Keep in mind that VRay has it's own set of materials which don't transfer to DX9 or Lightworks either. Each render engine has it's strengths and weaknesses depending on what kind of project you are doing.
