I have created an arched frame by using "object subtract" in Model. I find then that the polydraw tool won't work in Workspace - I can't add any edges to the frame. It acts like it is adding the edge, but it disappears as soon as I finish. I wanted to add some subdivisions prior to bending. I started with well-subdivided surfaces, but the "object subtract" casued most of the subdivisions to disappear.

Is there a function similar to "object subtract" in workspace? Or is there a work-around for this problem?

Thank you for any clues.

Boolean subtraction often leads to problems :) When you have faces with more than just four edges, then that can be problematic.

Options here are to add edges between existing vertices first, turning each face back into having at most 4 edges. If the Add Edge tool in workspace side won't let you do it, you can try that in the Model side, should work fine. Once done, you can try the Add Edge in the workspace side again.

There's no boolean subtraction in the workspace side at present.

HTH!

Thanks, TomG,

Using Add Edge on the Model side worked fine. It only took me 30 minutes to find that tool. I was so quick because it only took me 20 minutes to find the icon finder. It has a big red question mark on it so I thought no one at Caligari knew what it was for. :)

I'm looking forward to everything being (and working) on the Workspace side. Thanks again.

I started with well-subdivided surfaces, but the "object subtract" casued most of the subdivisions to disappear.

To avoid this behavior in the future, right click on the Boolean Tool before subtraction and remove the check mark in the 'Delete Edges' box.
Your pre-existing subdivisions should then make it through hopefully unscathed.

Another workaround that works is:

1.) delete the face
2.) add a vertex at each of the locations you want to connect
3.) select the edges to one side of where you want the new edge to go and click on Form Face.
4.) select the edges on the other side of where you want the new edge to go and click Form Face.

The new edge between the two new faces is the cut you wanted to make. ;)

Spacekdet, Jack,

That all worked. Thanks.
