My system: Dell Dimension 4700, Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00Ghz, 2.99Ghz (2 CPU's), with 2.25GB ram. Windows XP, Home Edition, service pack 2. DirectX 9. Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 8600GT-512 on board. 2048 Virtual Memeory. Using trueSpace ver.5.2.

I'm VERY new at tS. I have ver 5.2. I used ver. 3.0 many (10) years ago and thought I remembered things being much, much smoother and more precise.

When I first installed the downloadable version (while waiting for the disc to arrive) everything seemed very "jumpy" and slow....not smooth and precise at all, as I rememberd it....so...I upgraded my graphics card and installed 2 more gigs of ram but...that didn't help.

After I received the disc, I uninstalled the download version, hoping this may help. It seemed to help quite a bit at first but still not good...for instance....

When I insert a new primitive the "majic ring" works very nicely. Very smooth and precise. But after leaving that and entering the normal object selection mode, nothing works well at all. Again, it's very jumpy and imprecise. Even to simply move the object around in the work-space I may have to move the mouse 6 inches before the objects finally "jumps" to a new position.

The same goes for moving a camera around or trying to re-size an object, sculpt or just about anything. VERY frustrating!

I remember things being much smoother than this. Do I have something set wrong?

Hope someone can help. Thanks, Gary

It sounds as though you have the grid snap feature enabled to me.

Yes sounds like Grid Snap - this makes movements jump from one constraint to another rathen than smoothly. Check and see if that is on, and if so disable it, and everything should be back to normal.

Thanks!

Tom

In case you don't know where to look, this is the icon highlighted in TS5.1 - it might not be in quitethe same place for you, but should look the same.

You can toggle it on and off using the 'G' key on the keyboard too, which can occasionally happen accidentally...

WOW....I'm an idiot! That was it. Man, talk about a newbie. Thanks so much....all of you. And so fast!. Didn't even know what "grid snap" meant. Guess I do now. Oh well, just learning and would be totally lost were it not for people like you. An owners manual would probably help too. But beggars can't be choosers. Thanks again...Gary

Take a peek inside your tS5 folder.
There should be a subfolder titled 'PDFMan'
Eureka! the owner's manual!
Happy hunting.

Thanks again for your help. Now that I'm all excited about tS again (trying not to be a "Homer"), I thought I would ask about plug-ins. Am working on a landscape and noticed, while searching through some of the forums that a plug-in called trueParticles seems pretty cool for grass and the like but is only included in ver. 6.? and newer. Are there any of this type, or really any type of plugins available for 5.2 that may be useful? Thanks, G.

Troll thru Moonman/AKA Lunadude's (http://www.lunadude.com/) site, there are pretty much all the plugins listed there.
Some are dead on the vine, some still work fine.
He also hosts the Coolpowers Suite which are all great for tS5.
