Where's the button/setting that lets me select only one edge at a time in edit mode (I can then add using the Ctrl key), instead of having it Add the new selected edge to the one I have selected already? |

In the model side, on the far right of the Point Edit bar, there is a boolean like icon, which sets whether the next selection is added to the current, removed from the current, etc. The added to current selection acts like a toggle, so there's no "blank" icon - you just click add to current again to switch it off.

Thanx Tom for the quick reply. I am using 6.6 and I still can't seem to find it. Isn't model side 7.5 same as 6.6? |

Should be, though some icons were moved in the Model side. Attached is a screen grab from tS, unfortunately I dont have tS6.6 installed at the moment to look and see.
The icon finder should help locate them though if you can't see em on the toolbars. Or someone with tS6.6 will step in and remind me of where they were in there :)

By default in 7.51 Model side, these icons are just to the right of the Object Selection icon (the big white arrow). |

Under the 'selection' icons ('Select using freehand, etc). Right click and a dialog box pops up called "Selection". Deselect the upper left button called 'Add to selection'.
:-D -- Thanx Tom for the effort, and Thanx Froo for yours too.
Is this a cool community or what? |

Oops I guess we moved those for tS7.6? Ah well a sneak screen grab of a change if so! ;)
Glad we tracked them down in the end, thanks Froo.
Thanks!

Here is a tS 6.6 screen grab for anyone following the thread and still requiring clarity. This is using the subset of icons that appear when you right-click on an object. |

Haha, I didnt even think on checking tS7.51 to see if things were in a different place :O I just ran 7.6 without thinking about it.
So there's the first information leak outside the Captain's Blog! A glance at moved icons and an adjusted toolbar in the model side.

Breech, that won't do it (or at least not for me. When I right click on what you show, the dialog box don't come up).
The icons you're looking for (in 6.6 at least) are the red circle (right click the icon). What you want to deselect if you want to only hilight one edge at a time is the green arrow. |

Looks like Breech Block already customized his Point Edit Toolbar.
You can too and it'll save you having to right-click to get these icons to reappear.
Drop a primitive into the workspace and right-click to enter point edit mode- the PE toobar will open. Position it a bit off to one side.
Next, locate the 'Icon Finder' tool at lower right and toggle it on.
Behold, every single icon in one mega toolbar!
Now, locate the 3 'Add to Selection/Subtract from Selection/etc' icons and Control-Drag them out of the mega toobar and onto your open Point Edit toolbar.
To hide the mega toolbar, click the Icon Finder again.
This is also a good way to build custom toolbars or replace accidentally deleted tools.
(To delete any 'extra' icons, Control-Drag it onto the tS Trashcan icon.)
UPDATE: This is in 6.6, your mileage may vary in 7.x

Well that's strange, my Point Edit has always shown me those icons right from day one. It even shows the same icons on the Point Edit Toolbar on page 2 of the User Guide. All I have simply done is left-click the toolbar's handle which maximise it and shows all the icons in all the groups. |

Just curious, are you running 6.6 or 7.x?
I thought they did away with the mega toolbar when 7 came out, so maybe you have to conjure them out of the spaghetti bowl now?
Maybe they added the boolean operatives to the PE toolbar along with the patch -->6.6...been a while so I don't remember particulars.
For what it's worth. the procedure is still valid for adding/customizing toolbars. |

Interesting.
Breech Block I too had those there from day one. Now, before I started this thread, I had fiddled with those 3 buttons (on, off, in different ways). When I had deselected all of them, I couldn't hilight Any verts or faces. Apparently, after having tried the 'long way' like was suggested by Frootee, and tried it tonite again since I read the recent replies, when I deselect all, it works like a charm (ie I get to select an edge one at a time). So, you folks are right on all points.
Dunno what happened, but thank you guys; it seems me and my puter are on the same wavelength again :-). And thanx also again spacekdet; I hadn't used 'customize icons' in so long, I had forgotten about that. |

Ditto (and I'm running tS 6.6 by the way).
Glad you got it sorted Dragneye. |
