I have a BVH file i would like to import to a character, but am having trouble figuring out how to get it to work on the character. I am using TrueSpace 7.6 :D |

Hi Terry, Lots of info on that by searching the forums. Search BVH. Meantime I will summarize for you.
1. Go to your LIBRARY BROWSER/ bvh mikes moves or bvh sports folder.
2. Load one of those skeletons (those skeletons are perfect because they accept all the bvh "anims clips" from all the skeletons in the bvh mikes moves and bvh sports folder that are in your library browser folder AND most all truebones.com 2000 plus bvh motions)
3. Insert that skeleton in to your character object. Then using the shape skeleton tool get all fitting proper. Then attach skin to skeleton.
4. after that you can do some weight painting and joint limiting if you like.
5. Now once you got the skeleton in your object all you need to do is go grab a skeleton out of the bvh sports or bvh mikes folders or truebones.com and load any of those skeletons. Then in the animation editor/STORY area select that skeleton you just loaded and then select the ANIM CLIP from that skeleton. Now that you have that ANIM CLIP SELECTED you can save it to your LIBRARY as an ANIM CLIP and the load it on to your character in its timeline or you can just copy and paste it on to your characters skeleton in the animation timeline.
SO TO SUMMARIZE ... YOUR SKELETON MUST HAVE THE BONES NAMED CORRECTLY LIKE THE SKELETON ON DEXTOR OR ANY OF THE SKELETONS IN THE BVH SPORTS OR BVH MIKES MOVES FOLDER (IF! you want to use any of the anims from the bvh sports or bvh mikes moves folders or truebones.com )....
OR!! YOU CAN JUST TAKE BVH FILE YOU HAVE (WHICH IS A SKELETON) AND INSERT IT IN TO YOU CHARACTER AND USING THE "SHAPE SKELETON TOOl" POSITION IT PROPERLY (use top, front, side views makes it easy). THEN USE THE "ATTACH SKIN TO SKELETON TOOL" TO FINALIZE. Then you can weight paint a bit or set joint limits if you want. In other words you can just drop that bvh skeleton you have and drop it in to your character and attach skin it. :jumpy:

Great. If you must use that particular bvh/skeleton and do it quickly last paragraph in my post is the easiest but you wont be able to drop any of the ANIM CLIPS on it that come in the bvh mikes moves or bvh sports folders or truesbones.com. :banana:

Hi Terry,
Here is a tutorial on how to attach a BVH file to a character mesh and do some basic weight painting.
Its very easy, with TrueSpace that is..

Hi Terry,
Here is some more info,
You can copy the anim clip created by the imported BVH in the Animation Editor, then paste it on the same track as your Character skeleton track.
Or you can select the anim clip created by the imported BVH and save to library as an RSCLIP to your library, Once saved you can apply the RSCLIP directly with one click to your pre-rigged character.
