How do I get the workspace bones and joints to move more rigid, so every bone and joint does not move with the one i'm trying to move?

I like to have control over individual bones and joints, not all of them at once.

Thankyou

Hi, tamtam. One way that gives very precise control is to manipulate the skeleton with the joints rather than the bones. To do this, left-click on a joint (with the Dynamic Pose tool active). The manipulation widget for that joint will appear. Left-click and drag on one of the three rotation arcs of the widget, to cause the joint -- and the entire limb from that point on -- to rotate in the direction you want.

This method has the following advantages over dragging the bones directly (or using a handle):

1) It leaves all the bones that are "upstream" from the joint unaffected.

2) It rotates the part of the limb that is "downstream" rigidly, as a single unit.

Example: See the attached pics for an example of moving a character's elbow without affecting anything above the elbow. Note that the forearm, wrist, fingers, etc. all move as if they were one rigid piece, so their positions relative to each other remain intact. The first pic is just the starting point, with nothing selected. The second pic is after I have clicked on the elbow joint (with Dynamic Pose active). The third pic is after I dragged on the red arc a bit.

I recommend going through the chapter in the manual on character editing. It's written pretty clearly and the videos present the basics in a very straight-forward manner.

I hope this is useful. :)
