Hi, i'm having an issue with the Facial Animator (the one with the sliders, on the workspace side). The thing is, whenever I try to keyframe any movements of my characters face when using the sliders, the keyframes show, but they don't work (not animating).

Anyone have an idea of how to fix this? Is this some feature (or a bug), that hasn't been implemented yet?

Here's a zip file with an animation of me using the Workspace FA, trying to show what i'm doing. Maybe this will help with resolving the issue.

Those are morphs :) The Facial Animator is a different thing (it generated movement based on audio files, and only worked for faces - morphs can in fact work for breathing in the chest, muscle bulges in the arm, or anything).

It won't record by default, you need to enable it in the keying panel so that the key frames record those attributes (you can turn on and off what attributes are captured by key frames). I refer you to the manual on the morph panel for a comprehensive write up on how to do that (I know its there, since I wrote it ;) ).

HTH!

Animation used to work in the model side, back when it was 6.0 by itself.

I think its a bug that kdf is not working like it used to, or maybe I have forgot what to do?

You can keyframe movement in the model side, and play back an animation, but its mostly just movements of statue like characters, even though they have bones. This is because there is no way to reposition bones. Also useing the move down nodes to select a node of an animated figure does not work except for a few nodes. Does not seem possible to get to every node of a character anymore..

In early versions, like 4-6 we could click on the characters and get to the bones, and reposition them. But now the only tool we have to repostion bones is the dynamic pose tool, and it does not work on the model side.

I wish for the 6 side to be fixed back like the stand alone version when and if caligari makes a new version of truespace,, or make the dyna pose tool work.

There seems to be other changes that have occured from version 6, to version 6 within truespace 7.6 that need fixed. I can not list them at the moment, so will have to start making notes on what needs done.

But I just love that dynamic pose tool over in workspace side.

Regarding FA: I wish they would put in a switch, so we could turn off the mouth, ears, eys, etc, and only have a blank face, and maybe let us select different shapes, like ovals, spheres, block etc. Then I think we might be able to use FA as a photo modeler for things other than heads. Just pick an approximate shape that is close to what you want to model, then load in a front and side view, and adjust the vertexs for good appearance.

Then maybe go to the actual object, and work on reshaping it slightly while a texture is painted on it, would I think make it easier to model. By the way, try use of one photo that is not the same person as the other photo, good for making monsters with FA Or paint a front and side view in a paint program, and then use FA to make a 3d head of what you painted.

Hi notejam.

Model side (6.6) is no longer being updated.

8.0 is the next major release, and will be Workspace side only.

So if there is functionality you want to see implemented that is where it will appear.

Yup. Frootee is right. And now is the time to get your feature requests in for 8.0. So if there's something in model side that you need implemented in Workspace make a feature request thread for it, that way the devs know that it is a feature that is wanted. Also post any workflow improvement idea you have.
