Okay .. last one for tonight and next few days. Grill as before but with the tiled colouring on guitar for another go. I think the knobs on the guitar aren't right but the guitar effect is interesting. It takes a good bit longer to render so I haven't experimented with it much.

It is looking sweet.

Only estetic item I notice is how the guitar is laid upon the pillow. A guitar player will put the neck on the pillow, as close to the body as possible. There is tremendous stress on the neck of a guitar. By putting the head-stock on the pillow, to take the weight, increases the stress quite a bit. To ensure neck does not bow over time, guitar is hung by the head-stock or perhaps sits with guitar straight up, putting weight on the body of guitar and perhaps leaning on the neck ever so slightly. Is a small point but figured I would mention it.

The ashtray needs to be tiled too :)

Norm, how come you wan't everything to be tiled;it's as if when you were young you had some brilliant experience with tiles and you want to share it with everybody else.

Yer I agree, why have everything tiled, seems to over do it if yuou have everything done. The guitar looks nice but the ash tray and the speaker I think are a bit much.:)

Great job getting honorable! I liked how you handled the horn (brass finish) compared to how it used to look. I wish you had gotten rid of the pillow but that is a personal thought. Of all the renders you did the one you submitted I liked the best. My two cents worth only one....

See rchappell - I told you the guitarists would be unhappy with the head-stock of the guitar sitting on that pillow!! (Among my more irritating personality traits is an annoying tendency to say 'I told you so' - sorry about that :D ). I'm guessing from Norms comments that he's played a bit of guitar himself?

I think you definitely offered up the best of your images for the gallery - congratulations on the Honourable Mention and thanks for sharing your progress with this pic - it's been a good buzz watching it evolve.

Several folk have addressed the knobs - in my experience Fender tone and volume control knobs generally have a much higher profile than the one you have modelled - it might be worth googling for some reference pictures if you don't have an actual guitar to study.

HTH.

I am really pleased with the honourable mention and I must pass on some credit to the fine criticism and advice I have received from the more experienced members of the forum, thanks. I am still sticking with the tiled effect as for this one but hopefully this shows the string thickness more accurately. The strings are perhaps a little dark though. I will try and fix that. I have lost the pillow thing - trying something else here but it needs a little work. It has been an enjoyable journey this - maybe not that far to go to the end now ...

Okay slight change to the LPs on the floor with Kiss now on top since they have the black and white thing on their faces. I also changed the volume knobs slightly and did a bit more post processing with the desaturation and contrast. Second image is over sharpened but I think this adds a grainyness that is in keeping with the mood.

Really like the transparency on the guitar. Gives it more of an alive feel instead of been dead and black.:D

The ash tray could maybe be mucked up a bit more after all it has a finished cigarette in it. Does look a little shiny inside for an ash tray.

I am sure glad you took that cusion away, it was spoiling your whole scene. Looks much better with the magazines there.:D

Could the paper at the bottom of the image be screwed up slightly such as the corners peeling back to make it looked used as it looks newer than new. (only a suggestion):jumpy:

Apart from that congrats again for your honorable mention and your image is coming along nicely!:jumpy: :D

I don't think it is transparency, IIRC it's just the same tile texture as is on the floor underneath, which I think Norm suggested.

If it isn't transparent then he has made a brilliant job of making it blend in with the floor:)

You're too kind Mark. It is the same texture as the floor but with no bump map. I had to rotate the floor tiles to make it "blend" but a lot of it was luck ... honestly!

Here are four alternative versions of the same scene as I can't pick one as a favourite. I am consdering this project almost (?) finished unless there is something glaring that I need to address. I think I have probably bored everyone too much already... and it is probably time to start something else.

Brilliant! The first image of the 4 is my clear favourite. The new strings look spot on, the knobs look better too.

The addition of the Kiss album is inspired brilliance! It gets rid of that pesky pillow and fits nicely with the title of the magazine article (glam rock) - which also has a nice visual gag - the 'fag-end' of glam rock next to the 'fag-end' in the ashtray.

The B&W look really works for me - I'm not so keen on the textured guitar body - at first glance it looks like transparent plastic which does not appeal to the guitar purist within me. Whilst it's a clever idea I feel that it lacks the sophistication of the B&W version.

HTH - and thanks for sharing this process - it's been fun watching this develop.

PS: As far as I'm concerned guitars are never boring.:D

hmm .. the surealist influence on my artistic side.

You saw the effect on the guitar. I was curious what the image would look like with everthing textured tile. You would still see them like you did the guitar body, yet some elements in the scene would not be touched, like the albums, amp-grill, guitar-knobs. The rest your imagination has to fill-in via shadows and reflections and the like.

It is an interesting image and the author was asking for sugg-crits. No harm in mentioning :)

Congrats from me too oh honorable mention. Well deserved.

Thanks Wizard. It was funny how this one came about. The article was found merely by searching for "NME" in google images and by that time I had modelled the dirty ash-tray. It just seemed like it was made for the image.

I just hope Kiss don't sue me.

Wow! I haven't heard or even thought about the NME for years - and I used to be such an avid reader of it.

Your right though - it can befunny the way some images just fall into place where others just don't work out right.

"I just hope Kiss don't sue me" Chuckle, I just hope Sue don't Kiss me!!

Maybe you took it the wrong way, it was just my poor attempt at humour. It obviously didn't go down well.:(

You are on a very fine line here Richard, between WIP and and Final Image, i'm waiting in anticipation for your next project. :)

I have spent the last couple of weeks plumbing in a new bathroom suite so not much time for anything serious. Following on from my last venture I have been dabbling a bit with IBL's but I am still learning.

My friend asked me to change the picture slightly as a tribute to the UK band from the 80's called Madness and I have posted that here.

As for new projects I need to get my teeth into something worthwhile again though ...
