I think I am lost on this. I am following Jacks video on Organic Modeling until he get to clicking on a edge, then said

Use the widget to scale the selection flat in Y. Watch the info box and keep scaling down until the Y scale value is zero. Now that we have a flat center-line to mirror around . I don't seem to get the Y to scale and if I change the Y scale in the info box then the model get real ugly. So I am hoping for some help here on how to scale an edge on the Y.

Hmm... could it be that I said Y and then did a different axis? Which video is it? I can take a look.

Also if you can post a screen cap I might be able to see what you're doing differently.

Hi Jack

Ya it is the fish tut that you did. It is were you cut the fish in half for the mirror. You click the outer edge to flaten it with the Y. If you still need the pic let me know and I will take one of it. Even in your Ws_Organics_Scripts text file that came with the video said Choose the Rectangle Select tool and change the element type to Select Face. Now drag select all the faces on the right side of the fish and click the delete tool. Go back to perspective mode and we should have half a fish. If you have any stray edges that were missed, select them and delete them. Once we have exactly half of the fish remaining, choose the Pick and Paint Selected tool and change the element type to Select Edge Loops. Mouse over the back edge of the fin so that the inner edge of the fish highlights and click to select it. Use the widget to scale the selection flat in Y. Watch the info box and keep scaling down until the Y scale value is zero. Now that we have a flat center-line to mirror around find and choose the Mirror Modeler icon.

With the video done in 7.5 and me in 7.6 maybe its why I can't do what you are asking.

Hi Finder, my Vista install just destroyed itself somehow, and TrueSpace isn't working for me at the moment. Let me see if I can get back up and running so I can help you out.

Couple of tips that might help:

1.) Make sure you are using edge loop selection and only selecting the outer edges when you pick the loop.

2.) Alternately use an orthographic view, switch to edge element type and rectangle select, then drag select just the interior edges.

The point of that step is to make the center line of the fish flat so that the mirror will line up correctly.

Got Vista fixed. Man, I lucked out and found a solution on the web. Involved a bit of registry hacking. *sigh* Looks like the problem may have been caused when my anti-spyware prog removed a trojan horse... grrr....

Anyways, back to the organics course. I checked and Y axis is correct. :)

I had another thought as to what the problem might be. It could be that your fish doesn't line up along the axis the same as mine, depending on how you set up your template. Make sure the axis you are scaling on is perpendicular to the center line of the fish.

Let me know if you still need help or if you've got it solved. A screen capture or video of the problem would also be useful. ;)
