Hello,

I would like to request a short video clip on how to display and flip face normals in both Model and Workspace. Also, I have read that there is no equivalent to Blender's 'recalculate normals outside'. Is this not needed? going to be added?

Thanks

??? I don't have any conception at all about what that means! :)

There is a face flip button nestled amongst the object editing tools. You can highlight faces then hit the flip-face tool or you can select the flip-face tool first then click on faces one at a time. Does this not do what you require?

Sorry I can't show you a screen cap of the buttons location as I'm at work.

"Flip Selected Faces" on the workSpace side.

Hi, Sorry, that "recalculate outside" sentence is really bad isn't it. If Steinie's cube had some of the normals pointing in and the rest pointing out then "recalculate normals outside" would make all the normals point to the outside. In Blender doing Boolean operations or making duplicates of meshes leaves the normals pointing every which way. The recalculation function is a time saver since you don't have to select all the messed up faces and flip them manually. So I'm wondering how you would do this in tS, and hopefully that tS doesn't suffer these normal problems at all. Blender is the only 3D program I've ever used (and probably left me brain damaged) so I'm not sure if the tS method of modeling is going to be pretty much the same or lots different. Actually, it seems almost the same except for some of these fine details like normals.

Thanks Steinie. I looked all day for that icon. So is there a way to show which way the normals point?

I find normals rarely get into a tangle in tS, I hardly ever have to use the flip tool at all, and when I do its for an imported model, or if I have been doing something using a plane (which I usually avoid ;) ).

There's no auto calculation to make all normals face outside, but like I say, you should rarely see any situation where you'd need to do that anyway. Not that the tool wouldn't be a bad addition.

HTH!

I remember that corrupted normals was a common problem with old models from free sites or older formats. An automatic normals fixing tool would be very handy for dealing with files that don't want to import nicely and breath new life into some of those old models. :)
