I'm so new to this material editor on the workspace side, and I don't have a clue of how to use it to apply materials/UV maps.

Can someone please walk me through the steps involved in creating a UV mapped material on the workspace, or even just creating a simple material, possibly with steps on how to use alpha maps too?

Thank you.

The process is different depending on whether you are targeting for VRay or DX9.

For DX9 you have to drag a DX9 material onto the object then you can load maps into it and change it's parameters.

For VRay you can use the VRay material editor which works mostly the same as the one on model side.

To UV map you need to use the UV mapping tools, that is something completely different from materials but determines how your textures will appear on the object.
