To get rid of the seam in the background where the floor meet the wall, you can make the floor and wall one piece that round into each other. The new look is much cleaner btw. :)
You may want to limit the reflection some or do two passes, one with a more matt look with a stronger shadow and separate one with the reflective gound, then composite them. |

Today must be a good day for agreeing with Jack because I agree with Jack for the 2nd time today.
Another strategy I've used with good results is:
Set background shader to the neutral colour you want then use a circular plane or flat cylinder as your ground object and use an alpha map to feather the edges |

Good Technique. definitely looks more like a stage that way. |

Good example Wizard! I'd forgotten about that approach and it's a fair bit simpler to setup since it's less lighting sensitive. :) |

Certainly prefer the 'cleaner' white studio look to the old wood floor version. Another method to get rid of the seam is to make a huge infinity arc. These are used in real studios all the time and a virtual one can be knocked out very quickly. Check out car lighting tutorials for reference if needs be or I'll run trough it in IRC when we next bump into each other. |

definitely getting there. the frog doesn't look like he's carrying any weight with the word frog. also when the 3D hits the ground, it kinda thunks there and the word frog jiggles as though it's made of Styrofoam instead of the apparent stone it is. Maybe make the bounce a bit slower and instead of just bouncing up, have it rock a bit and have the rocking take more time than the fall of the word 3D? |

yay! Froggie gets away! ;)
Really good animation and one can tell he is saying hello without any sound!
Nice mouth morphing. :) |

LOL! That's one resilient frog!
This is coming along nicely - it's almost compelling me to make something similar for one of my many Wizard characters. |

Think I'm gonna call this one done for now. I'll add the soundtrack tonight or tomorrow and post it. Here's the render:

It's definitely better with sound. But shouldn't froggy have a more hoppin' tune? :p |

Here's froggy's latest adventure.
I animated and rendered in messiah, but the model is all truespace, so I hope its ok to post. I use a few different packages, truespace is always in the pipeline no matter what i do though. I have some animations I am working in truespace too, hope I can post them soon.
Anyways, here's froggy celebrating the coming of spring :) |

Looks like a happy froggy. :)
Which system did you find easier to use? |

They are really different systems. Messiah does not have vertex weight painting. Basically you pop the bones in the mesh and fiddle around with the bone weighting until you get it right. It is really easy. But building skeletons in messiah can get complex, considering how advanced you want it to be, but it has great power. I use a biped autorigger I bought for messiah.
Setting up a skeleton in truespace is much easier and straightforward I think. Weight painting is not as easy as the way messiah works but does give greater control I think.
I really don't prefer one over the other. They are different and I like them both. I added messiah to my arsenal because it has some tools I want for some things I want to do. This animation could have easily been done in ts as well, I am just learning the basics of messiah. Sometimes I am working in messiah and I think darn I wish I had that tool ts has and sometimes I am working in ts and think I wish I had that tool messiah uses. |
