Hiya all!!
I'm new to this community and wanted to introduce myself and ask a few quick questions. First the intro:
I'm an aersospace engineer working for the U.S. Army. I work on gas turbine engine propulsion systems and was looking at possibly using truespace for doing some modeling for CFD (Computation Fluid Dynamics) analysis. In CFD, you use a code to solve the flow field in some volume so what you are really trying to model is not the solid objects in space, but rather the space (where the fluid will flow) around the solid objects. I was wondering if TS could export formats more usable to our CFD codes sucha as .IGS files, PATRAN, ANSYS, or Fluent compatible formats.
I also am an avid Allegiance fan. Allegiance is a multiplayer, on-line space combat sim. with strategy aspect. It is touted as "the best game you've never played". I was also looking to potentially do some modelling for Allegiance as well. The typical format for the models is .mdl which I believe is a Milkshape exportable, but do not know if TS can do this (Allegiance may also accept .x files).
So that is basically why I am here. I do not have a background in 3D modelling of any kind and am as green as they come. This leads me to some simple questions
QUESTIONS:
1) O.K...so I got TS running...what is the best approach for learning the environment, tools and how to model? Should I run through the user's manual that came with the code? Do the online tutorials? Buy a book on modelling? Remember, my applications will be somewhere in-between CAD and modelling...not so much art as design.
2) Are there others in this forum that are using the code for similar design-type work? If so, what is your experience?
Thanks for any comments and I hope to be chatting with you in the future!!
p.s. no avatar or siggy until I learn how to use this code!!!:D |

Here are (http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/Newspirit.asp?Cate=Training&Subcate=Fundamental) all the (now free) videos mentioned in the 'trueCirriculum' post.
These are in addition to the free ones available on the page where you downloaded the program.
As w!zard pointed out, there are a couple newer ones missing from the list. |

I plan to go through all the training videos. The cirriculum is a great idea...maybe a sticky at the top of New Users would help? |

fishbone , for me I've been through heck with 3d software ; and i just started TrueSpace yesterday .
Anyways i do suggest running the tutorial for getting about the interface . You may have issues because 7.6 looks different than 7. The tutorials about the interface is a start ; just dont worry if everything doesnt matchup . |

You should look at this website (http://www.rab3d.com/). He's your kind of guy. He has a tutorial called Precision Modeling that is one of the great tutorials of all time. Even though it is for Blender I still recommend it. In fact I am going to try to repeat his tutorial in trueSpace just to learn tS. |

For what it's worth, there's a video tutorial under the Old Courses section called Spirit of the Interface where he shows off what the tools can do. But most of them seem to be missing from the new workspace so... |
