is there some way i can download the stuff i see in trueplaces and then disect them to see how they were made?
i've tried doing this by going to for instance the lakehouse and then switching to model view. however i'm running into a situation where i cannot get my view inside the house, it cant push through the window or something.
ideally i'd like to do this introspection/disection in workspace side as i'm more comfortable there right now.
any tips/suggestions?
some really great examples if i could only figure out how to get them to my local machine. they are there but for example when i try to add a light in lakehouse workspace it shows up, then it disappears like it's a locked scene or something.
i dont see any facilities to 'unlock' it. i'm the only one there, too.
thanks in advance. |

Shared space (Truespaces) only works from the Workspace side of the interface. That said, you can save any object or scene by right-clicking in one of the libraries then save-as either a scene or an object. You can then load that scene or object when you're off-line from Shared Space. |

yes grymmjack. The shared spaces are/can be configured as read-only.
So if you add an item it will be deleted immediately.
The meeting room and scriptorium do have write permissions though.
So they are good places for experimenting. |

As noted, just save the scene to your library. Then disconnect from shared space, and then load the scene.
Scenes can be locked to not allow modeling, and many truePlaces are set up like that as they are intended for social get togethers and not modeling get togethers :) Once saved and opened locally though, such locks will not exist and you can edit and model and create and move and delete to your heart's content!

awesome!
this is exactly what i intend to do. all the truspaces have something that interests me.
perhaps the most daunting thing is understanding lighting. it seems like lighting is EVERYTHING in 3D. my test work so far has all turned out quite mediocre. so i hope to learn by disection of the truespaces.
are there any free 3D model resources on the net where i could download sample scenes/lighting setups/textures/etc. that would be compatible with ts?
you guys are so helpful. i really love this place.
i'd search on the net myself but i'm scared to venture down the wrong holes - i've way too much to do/learn as is, mainly i ask for examples to learn from.
thanks again |

Lighting is exclusive to an application - as far as I know, no format carries lighting information with it (even if it carries geometry, texturing and animation).
So the only content that would show you tS lighting is tS content :) There are sample light libraries in tS, you'd be best starting with those, and the scenes light Night Church and Backyard in the scene libraries.

More lighting information:
Your local Border's Books should have a copy of this. (http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Lighting-Techniques-Effects-Animation/dp/0240516893)
This one (http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Lighting-Rendering-2nd-digital/dp/0321316312) ain't too shabby either.
This author also has some example scenes and objects for download at his site. (http://www.3drender.com/)
Yeah, like you needed more stuff to read. |
