This is the only way that I am aware of. There maybe others.

Save to the Library. Mouse over it, than right click to bring up some stats on your image.

With the object selected, right click on the 'Object Tool' to display the object info.


The poly count should be there.

Note that the last one is Model side only - you'll need to switch to Model side and right click on the Model side object select icon to bring up that panel.


In the workspace, the number of vertices is what is shown (in the bottom right workspace object info panel, in the stack - if you closed it, right clicking the workspace object select icon will bring it up as a floating window, again with vertices info shown).


Rich's technique of checking the object once saved to library is the only way to display it direct in workspace that I know of at present.
