I'm having a slight problem, and I don't know if it's me or the program. In model mode, you're supposed to be able to click on the widgets (those little yellow diamond things) to be able to move the object around, but no matter how I click it (left, right, both), it just won't move. I can move the object around in workspace mode using the widget there, but I'm getting really frustrated and I have no idea why it won't work in model mode!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Marie,

a screen shot or video would help...

Also check and see if grid snapping is on or if you've expanded the object's matrix in the Link Editor.

A screen shot is the best I can offer you. I have no idea how to make a video of a screen. And those other things, I don't know how to do. I'm still trying to learn how to use the basic controls :( I'm such a newbie.

Hmm... not seeing anything obvious. The diamonds on the control cage are used for rotation btw. It's the edges next to them that you use for translation.

If you're new to TrueSpace, I recommend using Workspace side to construct your models in. Model side is legacy, old TS 6.6, bolted on as plugin to maintain backward compatibility with older file formats and legacy tools.

To make a video of what TrueSpace is doing you'll want to download CamStudio:
http://camstudio.org/
Version 2.0 works fine with Vista, but you have to run it in Administrator mode. You'll also want to download this codec pack so that you'll have more options for codecs to record in:
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

You could also try saving and zipping up your RsScn file so that you can upload it to the forums. My guess is that it's a simple problem and that a video of the problem would lead to a quick solution. Those simple problems are always the hardest because the more basic it is, the less likely you'll find documentation on how to do it. Programmers run into this all the time and it can be REALY frustrating. ;)

To see how to model in Workspace, I recommend downloading my Organics modeling course here:
http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/WorkspaceOrganicModeling1.asp?Cate=Training&Subcate=Fundamental

or purchasing Justin Barret's course here:

your talking about the selectionbox widget

the diamonds when highlighted should also show a mouse tool symbol for rotate.tooltip should also show up for a moment. highlight diamond then click and drag to rotate

to move use the bars on either side of the diamonds by highlighting one then click and drag

the corner area are for scale same applies and more because there are some extra mousetools in corners too.

hth:)

Your Grid Snapping is on.
(Lower right corner, blue grid icon)
Click it once to turn it off - on= icon outlined in orange.
You should be able to move smoothly now.

Wigand: I have that already, but thank you for sharing it with me.

Spacekdt: That was it, thank you, thank you, thank you! I must have clicked that by accident when I was trying to find the right tool for something else. ^_^

Thanks everyone! Now I can get back to the tutorials! ^^; Someday, I'll be good at this...I hope.
