I don't want to change the focus of this excellent thread. Could you start a thread on how to create a diamond for us? Yours are fantastic and any help you could provide would be appreciated.

Well that wouldnt fill a thread Steinie.

Its not that difficult if you use the right tools....

While the petals were made in Ts The diamond was mad with

nurbs and is pretty downforeward........

You just have to make those edgepoints on different

planes first....... and then you connect them and make the polys out of them.

The forms are pretty well known.

The only problem is to get the polys in the base straight !

I will show it to you.....:)

First picture is the curves with the edge points.... second picture..

start to connect the edges all the way through to the base...

If you have the cage you fill it in with the polygonal faces.... finished !:D

To make some of thes faces flat you have to make construction lines

to fit those planes (with edgepoints) into the right distance to each other.:D

I really like the materials you have created here, some of the best I have seen. The lighting too of course is bringing those materials to life, so nice work on creating those HDRI images for use!

I do like the petals shown here, it reminds me of those objects made with glass, where they have metal foil on one side, an effect I've always liked. Anyway, excellent work! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks!

Tom

Steinie : The second way of doing the gemstone cutting....

is the actual way gem stones are cut !!!

You make a rough shape and then you make a cutter and while your precisely

boolean cutting (subtracting) away the access material you precisely turn the gem.

Or other way is to make arrays of cutters and then subtracting them...

That can come handy if you have complicated shapes.

There are hundreds of gem cuts!

Again the boolean subtraction in nurbs is nicer !:)

Thank you Peter for doing this for me. Your examples will help me with my own work.

Please keep posting your work here, I and everyone else really admire your work.

Thank you Steinie !

Appreciate that very much !:)

Here is a short hands on on a boolean cutter -thing I made pretty fast.

Its fun to look at what they reflect in the inside....
