Funny Rayman... my biggest issue with the GW sutff is that I am now mandated to do something I don't want..like use a special lightbulb. The problem with government, no matter where it is, creates the problems..then it has to spend time fixing the issues that they made to start with. And as far as man made GW..my oulook on it is.how arrogant are we to think we can totally destroy what God has made? As well the temp as only gone up .7 degree in 100 years and that peaked in 1998. SO I just don't buy it. I do belive the climate does change. I have no issue with that. Back in the 20's and 30's it was climate heating up..then in the 70's it was climate cooling down..and now warm again..hello..anybody see a trend here...the best way to fix the climate..is to LEAVE IT ALONE...nature takes care of nature. |

Ah damn - I was going to keep this post short and sweet but it appears I've had another Leo Tolstoy moment :D - Apologies for that.
Hey W!zard... just so you know guy... I was just giving you a hard time! I was in a bad funk when I said that... will PM you... |

I agree - the problem is mankind is not leaving the climate alone. I don't see how anyone can ignore the fact that we as a species have been pumping more and more crap into the air and water since the Industrial Revolution. Nature does not dig up all the coal and oil and burn it.
If you don't believe me come to my place any cold morning in a couple of months time and check out the air quality. The city I live in, like Denver in Colorado, experiences atmospheric inversion layers in the winter which trap smog laden air. The city I live in has 350,000 people in it and can produce a respectable amount of smog every day. Amplify that by the global population - 8 billion and counting - well, populations of that size frantically living indiscriminate and indulgently un-ecologically balanced lifestyles - that's simply not natural. How is nature going to take care of nature when we keep digging it up, sawing it down and setting fire to it? |

No sweat Froo! My Dad was in the Newspaper industry all his working life and I inherited a love of words from him. As a result you don't have to go too far through these forums to discover I probably write the longest posts of anyone!:D To be honest I don't know whether to be proud of that or embarrassed by it!:o
I thought your War and Peace line was hilarious (I even went and told my partner about and of course she said 'I told you so'). I just had to run with it!
You may find it hard to believe but I really struggle to keep my posts short - (well, shortish). I know that not everyone likes long detailed posts and I try to balance that with my desire to be as clear as possible - always a challenge with email and forum posts.
I hope you got over your funk OK - don't let them mess with your yoga man ;):D |

I'm certainly with you on that - I think there's potential for doubt over the global warming issue (the Michael Crichton novel State of Fear is a good read for example) and can't say I've definitely made my mind up on that, but there's absolutely no doubt that we're not doing a great job of looking after the world we live in, which is a related issue, albeit maybe not totally separate. We're certainly pumping out plenty of pollution and using up lots of resources whether or not that's causing climate change. In some ways things have improved somewhat as efforts have been made to clean up industry etc but there's still a lot of nastiness going into th eatmosphere, our rivers and elsewhere into the ecology...
In the UK at least, taking some of the energy saving measures is good financial sense if nothinig else - you can save a fair amount on utility bills by improving efficiency, reducing heat loss etc. Recycling is an increasingly big deal as we're rapidly running out landfill space to dump our rubbish. So even if it's not changing the climate, it makes sense to take at least some 'green action'....
I believe that one of the key historical reasons for such a strong anti-US position in Europe has been envy over petrol prices and the supposed gas-guzzling fuel consumption of US cars/vehicles.... how justified that is is another matter entirely!
NB - aren't political/religuous etc discussions supposed to be avoided on the forum?! |

Hmm... guess you're right on this one Kena. I did some searching and it looks like the CFLs have improved quite a bit while LEDs with good white color are expensive, dim, and hard to find. Looks like we're still some years away from getting decent LEDs at an affordable price:
http://www.1000bulbs.com/LED-Light-Bulbs/34846/
This online store did have a lot of variety and some non-full spectrum options in the $10-$15 range though:
http://ledlight.com/LZHousehold.aspx
I bought a 6 pack of CFLs back about a year or two ago. 4 of them died in the first 60 days, the last two I'm wishing would die because the light is such an awful harsh greenish. One finally found a home outside on the front porch where it can pain the neighbors eyes instead of mine... lol. So I guess that experience has biased me against CFLs a bit. :p
Or, go to Goldengadgets.com, and click on "led light bulbs." I got mine there
for $16. I have to sit under red ones daily for health reasons.
here's the link:

hope that helps. |

No sweat W1z, somebody had to pick up where 3DVisualsDude left off.
You've picked up the torch and are running like hell with it.
Just write a good summary paragraph, that's all I ask.

I do not see how the release of DX11 would affect the release of 76 but, I also find this quote interesting in that link:
You need not worry about your old raster-based DirectX 10 or older games or graphics cards. DirectX 11 will continue to support rasterization. It just includes support for ray-tracing as well.
A very similar comment was made regarding the future of truespace. It will be interesting to see if there is the same type of discussion regarding DX11 now, as what we have seen on these forums regarding the future of truespace. |

I agree DX11 could mean awesome things for 8.0. Especially if we get some of the DX guys to help with the implementation. :jumpy: |

Crikey! - Does that mean I'll need a new graphics card, which plugs into a new motherboard - in short a new computer - in order to get the real benefit? That would make a tS 8 upgrade very expensive! :D |

I'm in the same boat, lol. I'm still running on a DX9 7900GS card... guess I should wait until DX11 comes out (or the beta is available) to upgrade. |

Still the wrong place to post but I wonder if the DX11 news might, just might, affect the release of tS7.6.....[/url]It most definitely will not. We are hard at work on TS7.6 and I can tell you with confidence it will not include real time ray tracing:p There will be plenty of good stuff, not all of it real time, there will be stuff for traditional illustrators and animators too.
Oh and TS7.6 comes with a new Global Warming reduction filter, it is realy cool though workflow is a bit complicated. |

If you comb through the forums carefully you can can see evidence that there are quite a few fixes. Joints that explode after the character has been scaled is one that springs to mind - I know of at least one other fix that I'm not supposed to talk about too. Of course nothing is definite until it's released but I'm definitely starting to develop some serious antici....(wait for it....)pation!!:p |

... If you comb through the forums carefully you can can see evidence that there are quite a few fixes. ...
What i can see, and have seen in the past is that these bugs are NOT fixed here where i need the bugfixes. And that since nearly a year now. (counting 7.0 here means that we haven't got a working TS 7 since more than one year by the way. Three years? Four? ). And that happened and happens with nearly every TS version.
But who cares about customers. And who needs a working software anyway ...
I wonder if Caligari will do the same to Microsoft. Publishing a software with just half of the features (if even) working, then deliver the bugfixes one or two years later with the next version that comes with even more bugs. I wonder how often they would do that ;) |

With all due respect Tiles I can't help thinking that you are indulging yourself in a little selective vision. People didn't like aspects of earlier tS versions so the company rewrote the whole shooting box from the ground up - that seems like a pretty proactive method of bug fixing to me but hey, I've always been cursed with a positive outlook.
"But who cares about customers. And who needs a working software anyway ..." LOL - give me a break! I've had exemplary customer service from Caligari for many years now - and having had significant experience working in customer services myself I know what I'm talking about.
As far as working software goes - the tS software I have works - I use it daily and it fulfils most of my needs (or else I simply wouldn't use it). Scan these forums and you'll find plenty of other people who seem to be able to make it work as well - which is actually pretty impressive given the software hasn't even been 'finished' yet.
If you are experiencing difficulty making it work for you perhaps you could benefit by looking at how you use it, what you try to use it for and whether or not your expectations are realistic.
Do you seriously think Caligari are (a) that totally incompetent or (b) an evil heartless software company with a secret agenda to market crappy software? I ask this in all seriousness because your posts repeatedly indicate dissatisfaction on your part - and if you are seriously that dissatisfied what are you still here for? If I get poor service and poor quality goods from somewhere I simply take my custom elsewhere.
I apologise in advance if this post seems abrasive - but I was bought up to believe that if you can't say something positive, don't say anything and that there is no benefit in pointing out a problem without also pointing out a possible solution. Where I come from it's customary to speak honestly and directly - say it like it is - and around here anyone who constantly complains without good cause or reason is called a whinger. |

... As far as working software goes - the tS software I have works ...
Have a look in the bugs section. There you can watch when i have touched the workspace, which nearly always ended in a screenshot. And there you can watch the bugs that have stopped me using it. The ones i reported are around 60 before i finally gave up.
For the bones system for example the bug that made it impossible to setup a default pose. Which makes the bones system at least for me useless. No default pose means no rig.
If you are experiencing difficulty making it work for you perhaps you could benefit by looking at how you use it, what you try to use it for and whether or not your expectations are realistic.
Staying at the bones system here: it was not my lack of knowledge that stopped me here, it was this bug. But let's use the same argument here: maybe you don't try to use trueSpace and its features deep enough to stumble across the bugs and quirks. The buttons are not only there to look at them ;)
I was promised a bones system. And it's too buggy to work with.
What makes me nuts at this point is that i know most of these bugs are fixed. But Caligari doesn't deliver it to me.
Do you seriously think Caligari are (a) that totally incompetent or (b) an evil heartless software company with a secret agenda to market crappy software?
It is (C) . It's all about business here. It's not incompetent to sucessfully find an idiot that pays for a 6.7 version with non functional workspace side twice. An Alpha Version. Caligari managed that, which is high art. And with 7.6 maybe the third time. Because i am sure we have to charge for this one too. And i am sure it also comes with lots of new bugs. The bugfixes for that one may come with 7.7 then, in two or three years ...
It is simply more comfortable to deal it the current way, delivering the bugfixes with the next version. Delivering Bugfixes in a more regular manner means more work. And that's the point i mean that Caligari doesn't care about its customers.
What Caligari never understood here is that this "comfortable" marketing has cost lots of potential customers. That's where this "keep your hands away" comes from.
and if you are seriously that dissatisfied what are you still here for?
I have paid for this non functional software. And wait for the fixes. Since one year.
I still hope that trueSpace goes on in development. I still hope that at one point the workspace is at least as useful as the old core. Which is still a long way to go. Workspace is in its best areas incomplete, and in its worst areas unuseable.
What i also hope is that Caligari wakes up and starts to deliver bug fixes in a more regular manner. One year is definitely too long. And even Microsoft has a patch day.
I am no fanboy and Caligari is not god. Which means i have the right and the duty to complain. And i will complain as long as i have this disfunctional workspace here that i have paid for, and as long as it is necessary to get the features working that i was promised, that i have bought.
Even when it disturbs you ;)
It is fine when you are satisfied with the current buggy beast. I am not. |

Tiles how can you've missed that the whole Ts 7xxx is a transform to Ts 8.
It's only if you wanted to stay put or ahead of the gang that one bought 7 at all, or to get things cheaper.
Everyone else just skipped 7 and waits for Ts 8.
