Hey All

Just an FYI for anyone that has the Starz cable movie channel. Starz has a two part documentary/movie about how Pixar began. I watched the first part last night and I really enjoyed it. It gave me more of a big picture of how animation began, the primitive tools they used before computers, and on through to what it has become today. Very good for new users like myself to understand the history behind the animated movies we watch today. If you have Starz On Demand, you will find it there, I think it is running until

April 20th. (If you don't have Starz channel, I'm really not sure whether it's on the internet or if it is available on DVD.)

When they started out fresh out of college, the members of what is now the Pixar team were very fortunate to be trained by all the best animators in the business. After watching it, you can't help but say..."why couldn't that have been me!" It was destiny, they were in the right place at the right time!

Enjoy!

Mmm, can't say that Wall-E really floated my boat, as they say. However, the whole Pixar story is a facinating one and if there is a great documentry on the DVD, I might just be tempted to get it. It's intresting what you say about "it was their destiny" Musikman, as John Lassiter was fired by Disney when he was a young apprentice there and now he runs most of the company.

Anyone fascinated by the early days of 3D would be well advised to see the documentaries that accompany the Tron Collectors Edition DVD and I believe there is also a special edition of the The Last Starfighter coming out some time this year. That film really rocked (in its day).

Got 'em both. Got Last Starfighter on region 1 when it was released...same with Tron. I have to admit to buying nearly all 'classic' and modern CGi movies.

I stopped about the time of Hoodwinked as they are no longer landmark releases IMO. I mean, just how many CGI films have been released in the last year?

Yeah, I know what you mean. A lot of the studios have jumped on the CGI bandwagon now. I see quite a few at the flicks but only 8 have ever made it into my DVD collection. Which, considering I have almost 200 of them shows what I think of the quality. I hear Toy Story 3 was given a special preview to the Disney shareholders at their AGM last moth and totaly blew them all away. So, hopefully, we will see a raising of the CGI bar in the near future.

Hey Splinters, I believe it is called "The Pixar Story", I don't own the Wall-E DVD, but I've seen it. On the Starz channel they show the pixar story in two parts. I watched the first one, but have been kinda busy, so will be watching the second one soon as possible! Will also check out the Tron Collector's Edition. Where's the best place to find that DVD at a reasonable price?

You can get the region 2 from play.com for a measly £2.99. IF you are in the US though, you might need region 1. You could always buy my US copy but I have no idea what P+P would be.

Thanks Splinters, I'll probably be able to find it somewhere local. Have a good rest of the weekend :D
