It seem i start these a lot and never finish them properly.

What i'm looking to do is make a good basic mesh that can then be detailed into different characters. Really, it sould be as low poly as possible at this point so there isn't as much point moving to be done.

Here is where i'm up to:

What do you think, should i add more detail now? I know the eyes need more loops to get a more defined shape and the mouth needs more points to shape it properly but do i add them now or after i start to shape it into different characters?

I find if you delete the interior face for the mouth, nostril, and eye socket. You will find less collapsing of the mesh in those areas when you SDS.

You've got a good start, but the mesh still needs some tweaking before you start detailing more. One thing that will really help is to put a sphere in for the eye so that you can get the eyelid shapes right. Two other things that jump out at me are the nostril holes are too small and there's something funky going on in the area between the lip and the nose.

I think the area between the lip and the nose is pointing out insted of in  that will be fixed

I do tend to make nostril holes too small, i'll alter that too.

It does need more tweeking, the nose i think is still a bit undefined and i haven't shaped the neck at all really, the eyes and mouth are a long way from finished but i don't want the mesh to be too complex before i save it as 'Basic_Head001' or whatever.

I think i will have to do the eyes and mouth just so i know at least the points are there to make the right shapes.

Is there anything else you noticed jack? or anyone else?

looking pretty good, maybe add another edge loop around the eyes..there seems to be no eyelid. It may need ears also, other than that good clean topo'.

I'm gonna use this as a basis for this months MMC, the character creation one, so i'll be making a new thread for it tommorrow. Thanks for the advice Justin and Jack, i'll put it into practice on the finished thing

There's minimal topology on the forehead, might be a problem later.
