Lately these forums have been swamped with grim discussions about the future of Ts. Important as they are I thought I would lighten up your soul with a colorful picture I made last night playing with Ts and Dribble.

Three identical spheres but textured with different bitmaps and colors. An illustration made in minutes. There are some flaws with the lattice but otherwise Dribble does a fantastic job.

This might be what I am looking for Georg...I need to update my BuddyWorld map but I am struggling to get the look I need. I want blue seas with nice green land sections but brown/beige shore lines.

What is the best way of doing that in dribble to get the nice crisp edges you got Georg?

Would be interested to see your maps/mesh etc.

Glad you like it, Splinters. Important is that the bitmap you use for the bumpmap is pure black and white and has a high resolution. That gives you the crisp extrusions.

So for the earth I took an earth projection map and replaced the color of the seas with white and I made all the land black, the lattice is made from lines in Illustrator. Again black on white. Keep the displacement of the bump in Dribble very low. In this case the red lattice sphere had a smaller displacement than the yellow sphere, so it is invisible in the land parts.

The nice thing about the displacement in Dribble is that the parts that are white in the bumpmap "shrink" from the original sphere whereas the black stand out (with negative displacement that is). This way the spheres, although identical in size, do not overlap in the render.

Hope it works for you,

Georg

Brilliant Georg, could you post the map you used at all so I can try it out for myself? Then I can redraw one correctly for the Buddyworld map.

My pleasure.

Here is the bitmap for the color as well as the b&w version used as bumpmap. I enclose a render in which I used both color and bumpmap.
