you can sort of layer with real-time shaders... It just takes longer to do it.

I've always thought that tS's LightWorks Material Editor is simply one of THE most versatile bits of kit ever! It has spoiled many an otherwise worthwhile application for me (Bryce 5 springs to mind) simply because other material editors can't compete when it comes to ease of use and versatility - and Madmouse is THE best exponent when it comes to using the LW ME.

Such elegance and functionality, simplicity and capability in such a user-friendly UI - I've always considered it one of tS's best features. I just hope a similar degree of user friendliness and versatility is planed for tS7.x mat editors eventually - although as Kena says, the Real Time materials are already quite flexible.

Re MM's LGM (Little Green Man): Looking excellent Steve - I like the splodges on his skin even if he does look a bit like an advert for sun cream!

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

Just makes me think he's got some icky space plague. LOL who said he hasnt?;)

This brings me on to the only thing that I didn't quite like and that was the fact you could still see his belly button when he was wearing his suit Problem solved... I had to remove his belly button completely as I found it deformed in an ugly way during posing.

and Madmouse is THE best exponent when it comes to using the LW ME. :o Shucks W!Z youse making me blush :o

Thanks again

MadMouse you rock!

Have been away from my 3D hobby for a while due to work but took a few days off for spring cleaning/mental sanity reasons and found this gem waiting for my eyes! :)

Love the texture maps and expressions!

Always did like the lightworks material editor, especially with layering capabilities.

Not suggesting a change at all but just as a note to others I'm thinking an alternative to layers might be to use the "mapped phong" shader with masks in the shiny, specular, and reflection channels. Layers, of course, allow for more subtle effects and have advantages when you're trying to add a dirt layer which modifies the underlaying material without you having to change all your base maps.

Very cute alien. I don't mind the spots, but would be nice to have the belly texture also on his 'cheeks' :-). Then again, if he's gonna be covered by a suit...

Just for effect, I would switch those last two. Put the cloths on for "Rock" and no cloths for "chill"

LOL - I get what you mean about rigging but once a character is well rigged the effort becomes worthwhile - it's so much fun posing characters - and especially with one as wonderfully expressive as your Thing. Brilliant work Amigo, as always.

Amazing work MadMouse. You know, I have been a great fan of 3D ever since walking out of the cinema after seeing Tron. And as for Toy Story, well that totally blew me away. Part of my fascination for the subject has lied with seeing what you know to be only a bunch of triangles being somehow infused with a touch of magic that sees them leap to life and jump right off of the screen. Its rare to see this done well and whatever God-given skills your DNA needs to be able achieve this extraordinary difficult and remarkable transformation, you have by the bucket-load. Good luck with the rest of the project.

Thats pretty neat, enjoyed it. After looking at it for a while it seems like the eye on the right side is bigger than the left.

After looking at it for a while it seems like the eye on the right side is bigger than the left. I dont think that it is. it must just appear that way.

This is the first completed image using my 'Thing' character.....

It will be the brand logo for a series of designs that I have planned.

This logo will be used for promotional purposes on mine and other web sites.

Comments and crits would be most welcome, particularly concerning the choice of colors for the text.

I took your graphic and downsized it to see if it would hold up. I think you might run into problems with your website name. The overall logo looks professional. I'm not crazy about the website name where it is. I would consider a name tag for the "Thing" with your site name on it. The blue text at the top is possible too dark. I'm still up in the air about that. I like the Thing text and coloring.

This idea would really screw up your design (and hide all your work) but I picture the Thing holding the "Everyday" text between his hands.

Small points:

The hand textures has the same freckle on both hands which shows me it is the same texture flipped. Maybe move one freckle slightly.

I like the glow coming off the Thing.

I noticed the Thing has a better dental plan then my Pirate!

OK I like it...

I tend to agree with Bob's point about legibility when it's made smaller but much depends on where it's going to be used.

You might want to think about different aspect rations too - for a website banner for example you might try the words to the side of the image in which case will the dissimilar colour schemes in the text work?

Also, if you intend to use this on any printed media you may want to check how well it prints at various resolutions.

Other than that it looks like a typically brilliant and well produced piece of work as we have all come to expect from you.

He looks cute and charming without being cheesy.

I like it too! ;)

I wouldn't worry about the size of the text thing. A little CSS or Flash magic and you can make the url text pop out when hovered over or it can be mapped or both.

Looks to be a quite interesting promotional piece.

Let's hope that never gets taken out of context :O

Very cool images here to be back on topic, been a treat to watch this develop, and I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes with the commercial ventures too.

Thanks!
